About Me

Hi, I'm Marleen, 24 years old and new to the couchsurf community! I'm finishing my Master degree in Infection and Immunity end of this year. I love to meet people from all over the world and learn about different cultures and lifestyle. I love meeting up with friends, doing some sports (rowing, volleyball), partying, and just having great conversations with amazing people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing because I'd love to really experience the culture of a country by actually entering someone's home and learning about their habits and rituals. I think the best way to fully emerge yourself in a culture is by meeting up with locals, therefore I think couchsurfing is such a good concept and I would love to try it out!

Music, Movies, and Books

This is such a hard one, I love various types of music (as long as I can sing along, I'm very happy, although you will probably not be very happy since my voice is not really comparable to Adele or Beyoncé ;p). I like to read books about different topics and I like romantic comedy's as well as exciting thrillers haha.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My solo trip through Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam has been the most amazing trip I've made in my life. From diving (and seeing turtles), ziplining through the jungles of Laos, canyoning in Vietnam, eating local food, partying in Thailand and just meeting people from every country in the world has been such a good experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a very curious person and always up for discussions on any topic, even if I know hardly anything about it. I love learning new languages, learning about local dishes (and trying them of course), and seeing the most beautiful places.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach you a lot about Dutchies, the strange food they eat (which we can definitely cook), the even crazier language they speak (with a lot of gggrrr and rrrr sounds) but also my knowledge on biomedical topics and my ability to have a proper conversion with almost everybody ;p.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Laos, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Netherlands, Scotland
