About Me

Hello! My name is Áron. I am from Hungary. I grew up in a small but historical town, which made me to fall in love with history and old buildings, places and stories. Right in high school I was already planing to study history, (although at that time I was still mainly interested in Hungarian history) so I read many books and travelled in the country to visit, historical places. But later, when I enrolled in university I got interested in the cultures of other countries as well. I studied Latin and Arabic first. These made me more open to European and Middle-Eastern cultures, what I started to study with a great enthusiasm. I like volunteering, so this made me to volunteer in Hungary but later I was also working as a volunteer abroad. I went to Arabic countries first to practice Arabic and see the things I studied. There is no better teacher than experiance. I can read things in a book (which is also important) but it is nothing compared to be on the spot. Besides my own I started to love foreign cultures, and because of my bachelors before when I started my master studies I chose Islamic Studies. With this I could learn about more cultures and get to know this world even better. I always loved to study languages, so when the opportunity to study in Indonesia rose I grabbed it immediately. Right now I am living in Indonesia. This is truly an amazing country with many interesting cultures and languages, and I plan my future to be connected with this country. But soon my studies will be finished so I am planning to go home. For a while :D. There is always a new road to take, there are always new cultres and new places to explore. I love to make friends from all over the world, and so far I have been living in many houses with international people, and I always enjoyed this atmosphere. There is always something new you can learn from other people. I hope this learning will never stop in my life and I can get new and new experiances from whoever I meet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I generally like to travel, to see new places, explore new countries and get know of foreign cultures. Couchsurfing is a good way to archieve this. I also like to make friends from anywhere in the globe and by couchsurfing I can meet many interesting people from all over the world. I love to study languages, although my level of speaking them really varies by language. Some of them I speak more fluently while other ones less so. Through couchsurfing I also intend to practice those languages that I still don't know very well.

Interests

I love history in general. My interests are mainly about the older times, like the ancient era, the middle ages or even up to the 17th century. It always made me wonder how did people live in those old times. I also love getting know of different cultures. How to behave in other countries, what is polite, what is not. How do people think, what feasts they have, how about their beliefs, legends, stories and so on. The world is so colourfull with different cultures and the best way to know each other is respecting foreign cultures. I am really interested in religions, mainly about the different festivals, holy books and well everything about religions. In my point of view someone's religion and beliefs are very important for one's life and personality. I like nature, so I also like to visit national parks, forests, mountains, deserts and so on. It just feels so soothing to sit in a beautiful place and stare at the wonder of nature.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love many kinds of music. I grew up with my brother listening to metal music, and I also got really fond of it. I love many different kinds of metal and rock music. Starting from the glam metal of the 80s, through heavy metal until the folk metal of the recent times. I also like jazz and blues, actually I attended to a jazz music school for two years as a private student. And I love folk music. And it could be any folk, from Europe to Asia, but in general from all over the world.
About the movies I like many different ones. I have a collection of historical movies which I like, but I also love to watch comedies. Having a big laugh while watching a movie is always nice. And artistic movies can also give me very pleasant times. I love when a movie has a message what I can think about. I also like to read. Usually I read two books at a time. One is always some scientific book about history, culture or religion, and the other one is a lighter, more digestable fiction. These are mainly compillations of folk tales, or historical novels or sometimes fantasy novels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Many things I've done, let's see just one of them. It is special because it was on my first longer term outside of my country. I was working in Tunisia with the Red Cross. The job was already amazing, when I could help poor people collecting food for them, and than when they got it seeing their eyes. Well that was already amazing, but this is only one great aspect of the story. Once we went travelling with my friends in a holiday, and we went close to the desert. Still not in the desert but close to it. We stayed in a village. One night I went to the roof, and stayed there the whole night. Watching the stars shining like thousands of cristal eyes covering the dark night sky with their heavenly light. It was amazing and I even fell asleep there on the roof, only waking up when the sun was rising to see the beautiful colours painting the horizon. I know it doesn't sound much but it was truly amazing at that time.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always happy to share my experiances with anyone. I like to have a conversation where both of us can learn something new. We can learn from anyone so why not? During meeting foreign people I would like to learn and practice languages. I am also eager to know about their culture, and their way of life. At the same time I can teach others for the same things. Languages, cultures, history. Just some small things to share but they might be useful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share experiances, and of course I can always teach language. I already started to study many different languages, and if someone would like to practice one with me I will be more than happy to do it. Or just the things I know about like history and culture. I am always happy to share these with anyone. If someone is interested I can also share some dances. I studied dancing for 10 years. Although most of these dances are mainly from the renaissance era of Europe, but I also studied traditional Indonesian dances for two years. And of course I know some Hungarian dances as well, although unfortunaltelly less than I would prefer. Same goes with martial arts. I studied martial arts for 11 years. It is mainly medieval and renaissance European martial arts (if you saw movies about knights in armor, than that's it although a more realistic type), but I also got some insight to Pencak Silat which is the traditional martial arts from Indonesia. I can share these any time with my hosts. And if you like playing music. I must confess I am not really good in it but I can play a little bit in the guitar (although I prefer bass) and I can sing. So we can play some music as well. Just don't expect me to be a good musican. I can play, but only a little bit.
