About Me

Hi! I'm Daniel, I'm from Budapest, Hungary. I'm a journalist, an editor at an online tech news site, but I'm also still doing my Master's degree in animation - making movies and generally art is my other passion.

I travel with my girlfriend Piroska Nagybán, we've been together for 4 years and she's an amazing gal ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We love meeting people, we love listening to genuine stories from around the world, and we feel that if we took the usual touristy routes, we would miss out on those. When I was still in high school, I went to The Netherlands, and we stayed with a family there, and it was so interesting learning about their everyday life, and the kindness they showed us - we hope to see other cities that way, through the eyes of people who live there.

Interests

I'm mainly passionate about art, watching it, reading it, but also creating and performing. As I've written, I'm studying animation, and studied some filmmaking during my BA years, I'm mainly passionate about movies, but I also lead an amateur theater group, directed plays, and studied drumming for a while. Also, cooking is a favourite pasttime for me, I love all kinds of cuisines and always trying new dishes, both cooking them and eating them.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music, but some favorites: Modest Mouse, Foals, Brian Eno, Damon Albarn, CHVRCHES, Crystal Castles, The XX, etc

My all time favorite movie I think is Moszkva Tér (it's a Hungarian movie) but I also like Pixar's movies, Christopher Nolan's work and yes, the latest Marvel movies.

My favorite author would have to be Vonnegut, and from him I think I love Hocus Pocus the most, but I also really like Asimov, Murakami and Márquez.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I directed Twelve Angry Men with my amateur group. It was an amazing experience, and I'm really proud of this as an achievement, because I think it's a really tough play and our spin on it really made people think, and I think that's what art is about.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think I can teach people stuff about filmmaking, and about movies in general: I can go on and on for hours about them. I wish to learn about lesser known contemporary writers and poets of your country, but also I really like learning about local dishes.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well we love to cook, so that's something you can probably count on :) We love cooking together, and can show you wonderful dishes from Hungary.
