About Me
"Today I shall behave as if this is the day I will be remembered."
AmeriCorps alum. Former volunteer at Heifer Farm. Proponent for sustainability. Lover of learning. Believer in living your life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I believe that one of the best ways to expand your horizons is to interact with other people. I love learning about others' experiences, and once I get my own apartment (mid November), I will be opening up my home to others. Couchsurfing = expansion of worldviews.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music - I listen to everything from Tchaikovsky to SoDown to Caskey. I just like music. ❤
Movies - Movies that make you think, like Enter the Void. I'm always down for a good documentary! And absolutely no movies with jump scares. I get too jumpy. :)
Books - The classics! Steinbeck, Fitzgerald, Hemingway...I love them all. Anything that teaches me a new skill is good. And travelogues like Planetwalker are so cool!
This section made me realize how much of a grandma I am.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Accepted a position with AmeriCorps NCCC five days before the start of the term. I found out that there was an open spot on October 9th. On October 14th, I flew from Maryland to Sacramento without knowing anyone.
Served on a farm in Massachusetts and taught visitors about sustainability, hunger & poverty, farm life, etc. A couple of teens that I taught from Washington Heights in NYC now want to volunteer at that farm. I'm incredibly pleased! ^_^
Teach, Learn, Share
I believe that we all have something that we can teach others. Even if we're using a lesson manual, we can put our own unique spin on it. Being in AmeriCorps has given me the opportunity to teach and learn in a wide range of settings. I would be more than happy to swap stories from our lives.
I also served at Heifer Farm in Massachusetts and I do know a decent amount about education, hunger & poverty around the world, livestock, and gardening. I have a lot of travel stories, too. :)
Oh, and I've worked at Vail Resorts. I can share info about ski resorts and Colorado in general.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Unique stories, baking and cooking abilities, information on the Mid-Atlantic region (it's great! I recommend visiting!), information on the South, doing chores, gardening abilities, information on sustainability, etc. If there's something you want to know if I'd share, just ask!
P.S. If you let me cook/clean I will be the happiest person alive. No joke!
