Graduated in Medicine at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1984). I am also MSc and PhD in Preventive Medicine at Universidade de São Paulo (1993 & 1998). In research, coordinates and integrates Brazilian or international teams working on public health issues through epidemiological and human rights approaches. Main research themes are: children's and adolescents' health, HIV/AIDS epidemics, and also physical/sexual violence related to gender inequalities. Also, serves as senior editor of the journal Global Public Health, and as associate editor of the journals: Revista de Saúde Pública and the Brazilian Journal of Epidemiology.

- I have a diverse taste for music (I enjoy listening Brazilian popular music to erudit music, but I also love rock and jazz). Regarding movies, I prefer documentaries, sci fiction and well thought drama. I love books.
