About Me

Hi I'm William, I don't really know what to say "about me". I tend to get overwhelmed by my passions and whatever interesting I can learn from others, so I haven't quite settled on that question. :)

Lately I've mostly been dwelling on the encounter of art and technology that occurs in music. What begun by tinkering with my own musical gear, and volunteering as a stagehand at a local associative venue, is continuing through my ongoing research in Science and Technology Studies about the history of sound engineering relatively to the evolution of the musical output throughout the 20th century.
I still don't know if I want to go on with academic research, I happen to enjoy the trades around sound engineering themselves, as well as organic gardening and vegan cooking... I don't care much for prizes and diplomas I'd rather be a master of my own modest stuff.

I'm open minded, yet passionate about many things so I enjoy meeting passionate people whatever they're into (from macrame to football). I think there's something interesting and beautiful in everyone and everything, I guess I'm a "down to earth dreamer" of some kind. I can't wait to see what you people got!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I hadn't money or opportunities to travel until 2015 when some friends scattered around Scandinavia invited me and allowed me to do a long and wonderful trip there.

Then, I spent the last 8 months between cities for my studies, which I would never have been able to do without wonderful people who hosted me along the way. Not only did they allowed me to go on with my studies, but paved this scholar year with wonderful experiences and burgeoning friendships.

That's why I'm here now, I'd like to continue to challenge myself to meet people, share experiences and discover places !

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm very passionate about music, you'll find out if you meet me. For now I'll just say my favorite music is the one I wasn't expecting to touch me, so feel free to surprise me!

My consuming interest for music got my cinematic culture lagging behind, so I'm open to any directions in that field. I guess I got a thing for Kevin Smith movies, and mostly anything about "losers" of the 90s (Slacker). If not funny, anything being slow like Dog Day Afternoon.

Regarding TV shows I'm also uneven, Breaking Bad as my gateway to them, Spaced, Parks and Recreation, The Office for the funny ones, and The Wire as my most thrilling experience with moving pictures ever.

I'm huge on cartoons though, Daria being an old favorite, South Park an all time favorite and Steven Universe my current one.

Regarding books I'm messy as well, lastly I've been mesmerized by Matthew Crawford's "Shop Class as Soulcraft". Don't know if it's my favorite book, but definitely the one I bought the most (I found myself giving away my personal copy several times).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I managed to stay several months in Paris without paying a rent, and got so rewarded in friendship and wonderful times it eventually turned around my provincial rebuke for the capital, and my cat allergies (I had to share an apartment with 4 amazing cats).

That is, I think you never do anything amazing alone !

Bonus: I had to announce Nelson Mandela demise live on (local) radio, to an audience of probably 4 people, 3 of which were certainly my friends.

Teach, Learn, Share

Some things I'm particularly enthusiastic to do with/for people so far:
- Pancakes
- Guacamole
- Hummus
- Chocolate mousse (I lost some teeth in a bike accident, I had to eat a lot of grinded or liquid food (in a literal sense, not talking about booze), I'm slowly coming back to solid stuff now I'm fixed after 4 years of sourcing money for this)
- Miso soup
- Beer (the obscurer the better)
- Building guitar effect pedals and amplifiers
- Hosting a radio show
- Pushing buttons of politicians and various figures of authority there
- Playing obscure 24 minutes songs on another more liberal show (would love to play those to lousy politicians on the first one though)
- Getting hammered while doing so
- Setting up a concert stage
- Setting up guitars
- Music (guitar, bass, synths, drum machines, glassware, doors... when I'm not fixing them)
- Hanging at places with good (cheap) beer, and (fine) music.
- Hanging outside with good (cheap) beer, and (fine) music.
- Walking (when I can't ride a bike)
- Puns
- Gardening
- Social Sciences
- History of Science
- Fixing stuff
- Getting a damn computer to operate smoothly
- Exchanging extraneous bits of knowledge regarding vintage cars
- Probably more pointless stuff
