About Me

I am Furkan, a chill guy who is living a generally-happy life.
I've recently graduated from the department of Psychology in METU. I love deep/intellectual conversations more than almost anything.

Also, I am a very talkative person and I like to explore people rather than new places. I think places mostly repeat each other at some points, but you can always learn new things about people you meet, and there is no end for it. It's like a kind of eterniy to me.

I'm a social-minimalist, a new term that I made up myself :)
It means, (even if I like meeting new people) I avoid having unnecessary relationships with people that we do not share anything real but just pretend to be friends. Like people I met at a party in campus, had a small chat then have never met again, just greet each other for the next few years any time we see each other in the campus. It is soo unnecessary and tiring. I try to have no relatioship like that.

The reason for that is, I think there is a simple math behind quality relationships: They require time and energy, and both these two is limited in our lives. If we spend them on too many people, we would be less likely to have meaningful and deep relationships with ones whom we can be 'real friends' with.

Another thought that guides me in life:
I believe that life of any animal on Earth is simply about maximizing our satisfaction fulfilment and getting away from any discomfort feelings. We usually choose our own pains in this life. Almost all of our emotional pain is resulted from our expectations, which we choose to have either consciously or unconsciously.

If you know yourself and what you want well, nobody rather than you can say what is reasonable or good for you. Reason is not a strict path for human life since the most reasonable thing for somebody depends on what they want. For example, if you want to be attacked by a dog, then it would be extremely logical to push a dog to attack you :)

Except the fact that we are sentient creatures who need to fulfill their basic needs, everything else in this life, all values and systems are fictional. They are not from nature, they are from our imaginations...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would like to stay at somebody's home even if I find a very cheap hotel because doing this enable me to know new people in their own home by going into their life and culture's itself.
To make me sure on whether you cared and read all this, call me Fef when you message me. Don’t worry, I won’t judge you even if you don’t. It’s just a test.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am the only person that have rolled around and walked in The Dolmabahçe Palace with bathroom slippers after Atatürk. Shhhh! If somebody learned about that in Turkey, police would arrest me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to think for understanding myself and the life better, and I believe that I have found a good path for myself. I can share with you my own personal ideas about life and I would like to listen yours and maybe compare them. I like to talk about practical philosophy, even though I am generally ignorant about history and literature of philosophy.
I am quite focused on minimizing pain and maximizing satisfaction in my life, and I can share my experiences about them.

I can show you that what a wonderful thing writing is, teach you how to do amazing things by just using Paint or how to boil an egg by using microwave oven.

I would like to learn anything that attract my attention from anyone who may teach

What I Can Share with Hosts

I think I am good at listening people, and of course, I have my own stories and thoughts to share with others like everybody have. I do not prefer to have a solid personal privacy since I think it's ridicilous to think that anythink we feel or think is unique to us. Therefore, I try to be open about myself to people as much as possible.

Adding to these, I don't want to be a freeloader, I can share the price of food with my hosts when I stay with them, if they like that too.
