Because I think when you are traveling one of the main purpose is to get involved with local people, know about their cultures, food, habits... And the best way to do it is staying at someone home :) !
I think it is a great idea sharing our free space as it can be really useful for other people! At the same time you can share knowledges, experiences...
Also,when you are traveling, sometimes it is great to have a "home" even for one day!
