About Me

I'VE DECIDED TO TAKE A BREAK FROM HOSTING FOR A WHILE. Might do it again sometime :-) Been receiving SOOO many good requests lately from people who really took their time to read my profile. Sorry for not being able to respond to you all . Most of you've gotten my decline message template - sorry about that but I've been so overwhelmed by the amount of requests I've gotten lately.

I'm a guy who loves to challenge myself and grow as a person. I love creating amazing memories and attain skills through dedicated work.

I have a hilariously bad sense of humor and love to desperately try to make people laugh 😂

In September 2017 I will get back to studying after having a break for a couple of months. I'm very passionate about mastering complex scientific topics and really excited about my next challenge (which will be a master degree in bioinformatics). I hope to achieve a Ph.d. one day - and maybe finally be as smart as my beard makes me appear to be 😂

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet interesting, great, funny, smiling and laughing people to expand my social circle and spread some happiness.

So far I've had a little experience hosting, and I love giving surfers good experiences and feeling their gratitude. The idea of giving without expecting anything in return is a core ideology of couchsurfing, which I feel that I strongly resonate with.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Classic rock such as AC/DC, Guns N' Roses and Scorpions

Movies: I really like The Dark Knight, Lord of the Rings and Superbad - and tons of others of course

Books: I read almost exclusively non-fiction and don't really have a favourite.
Recently finished "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck" by Mark Manson and "Deep Work" by Cal Newport
Currently reading "Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance" by Angela Duckworth

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Dared a stranger to dance with me in front of a crowd of a street performer playing "A thousand years" (See picture 😉 )

Asked a mom if I could pretend to be the father of her twins to enter a church only letting in parents with babies.

Hard to choose so I picked two 😊

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn about different people's opinions about a happy fulfilled life and what they do to achieve it.

Then I will share some of my stories about things that I've done to grow as a person 😄

Lastly, if you have trouble sleeping one night you can try and ask me about the gastrointestinal microbiome of mice and humans and maybe I can help you out 😂💤

What I Can Share with Hosts

My humor and my (sometimes, somewhat inconsistent) "yes man" approach to life 😊

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF BEING HOSTED BY ME:
I've now been active hosting on CS for a while and have received many, many, many requests from CSers from all around the globe. Some are good and some are really really bad 😬 So I decided to write my opinion on how to make a good request:

☞ References: I know that some of you are new to CS and that you may not have any references yet. However, I now know from myself that it greatly increases the chances that I will answer "yes" if you have at least a couple of references. So before you write to me, ask people to help you out with some references. This also shows me that you put effort into CS and makes it easier for me to know what kind of person you are.

☞ Pictures: Some people have very few pictures on CS (and mainly of flowers or their dog eating sand). These pictures are very pretty, but they give me no clue as to what you look like. This is not a beauty contest, but I really appreciate knowing the face and appearance of the person I'm about to host! I don't know if this makes me weird, but it certainly transforms boring black text on a white screen to something much more personal when I can see that an actual (smiling and happy??) human being wrote this!

☞ Show me that you read my profile!: This is another thing that always makes me more likely to accept requests. Dropping a reference or two to my profile text is a good way to score some cheap points. (You can even make a reference to me saying that I like when you reference my profile text - or take it even further and point out that I tell you to make a reference to me saying that I like when you reference my profile text - reference'seption?! 😲)

☞ Use the correct name: Yep, this has happened several times when people copy paste their request so they can spam them to a billion different hosts. If this happens, at least point it out and make a joke of it 😆 I've even done this myself when applying for jobs. Don't pretend like it didn't happen, that's the worst you can do !

☞ Put effort into writing your request: I know that it can be very boring to read profiles and write individual requests for each host. But trust me, I can tell when something has just been copy-pasted to a shit-ton of people. At the very least you should only copy parts of your request (like the practical info) and write the rest from scratch. Think about it like this. You get to crash on someone's couch for free instead of paying for hotels, hostels or Airbnb. Instead of investing money you invest time on writing good requests!!

☞ Why me?: Speaking of putting effort into requests - It's a good idea to let me know what made you choose to send me a request. It shows that you actually read my profile text AND it boosts my very hungry ego that you tell me how great my beard looks and how funny I am 😇

☞ Answer me!: This might seem trivial, but a lot of CSers don't reply when I write to them. If you write me back I can see that you are actively using CS and that you aren't one of those people who are impossible to reach (and therefore would be a nightmare to host because of difficulty planning anything)

☞ Send an actual request instead of a regular message if you wish to stay at my place!: About 30.786% percent of all the request I get aren't actual requests and many of them I simply ignore because my simple brain is dependant on the beautifully structured user interface of the couchsurfing app. IF YOU CANNOT send a request it is likely because I've blocked those dates in my hosting calendar (because I like to pretend that I actually do other things with my spare time than hosting people) - or it could just be that I already accepted other CSers for those dates

I get around 30 requests per month but I only host a couple of times a month. So this is a lot of declines as you can probably imagine. However, following these simple guidelines will greatly increase your chances, since a very large fraction of these are really poorly written. I enjoy reading good requests so I hope this will increase their frequency 😊
So there you have it. Now go ahead and up your request game so we can meet ! ;-)
