About Me

Hello everyone! My name is Sandra Macias Lopez, and I was born in Cancun, Mexico. Since Cancun is one of the most visited cities in my country, I am used to hanging out with foreign people. From 8th grade to 12th grade(senior year), I studied in an international school called I.A.S. (International American School of Cancun), which has an American program. Most of my classes were taught in English by American, British, Scotland, and French teachers. So, my English is fluent. I have a Cambridge certification (B2) and teach English in a small language school near my house.
I am a cheerful and friendly person. I like to sing, play the guitar, and cook. I love learning languages, and I am learning Japanese. I am not allergic to any food, but I must admit the only thing I can't stand is Chilli (chile in Spanish). (I know, I know... "you're Mexican, but you don't eat chile?" Yeah, it is possible. Not all Mexicans eat that, I swear.) I'm not allergic to animals, so it's fine with me if you have a pet. (I love dogs and cats. My father had a farm where many animals lived in there. (Cows, pigs, dogs, cats, goats, etc.) so I'm used to being surrounded by a lot of animals. I also have a dog and a cat at my place, so please let me know if you're allergic to one. I like to party sometimes, but most of the time, I prefer to stay calm, talking about life with friends in a quiet mood. I like to explore the streets and ride a bicycle. In Cancun, it is more common to go to the beach anytime you want. I once camped on the beach, and it was awesome.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am so blessed with a new opportunity: Studying Japanese in Tokyo. I can't believe I'll visit this country for the second time, but this also means I must leave my comfort zone again. As my aunt says, "you can't live your life by carrying your mother's fears and limiting yourself every time. You have to make your own decisions. Enjoy the process, and the results may come later." Logging on this page in 2017 was my first step, haha. I know there are good people like me all over the world. I must meet them to prove my mother wrong, which is also an excellent opportunity to expand my family. I just have to find them.
Family and friends are the most important thing to me. So, what is life without adventures and friends? I hope you can trust me as much as I want to trust you. Couchsurfing's goal is for us to exchange points of view and teach each other something new. So, let's make that happen, shall we? I hope to get to your heart and see you soon!

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a music lover. I sing all the time, and I start to harmonize a song on the radio every time I hear it. If you could see my cellphone playlist, you'll be surprised by the variety of genres in it. I like most of the genres, now that I think of it. From the girliest pop song, you can imagine to rap and blues vibes. From classical music to rock bands. (I'm not too fond of heavy metal, but I like the old rock and roll style) I love 50's songs, and I usually hear music in other languages to practice the language I am studying. I like romantic comedies, action and suspense movies. I don't read as much as I used to, but I have read adventure and suspense books that I can recommend to you if you're interested.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have to admit, I'm not that special. I don't have superpowers or haven't gone camping to awesome places. Still, the most fantastic thing I have done as far as I can remember is staying positive and happy most of the time. So many people forget to focus on the most essential thing in life: staying happy and not losing yourself.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an English teacher in a small language school. But I have to admit my passion is to sing. Music is life, and I loved to be in Acappella groups. So I want to share the type of music I listen to. If you are curious about Mexican music, I can show it to you too. If you're interested in the Spanish language, I could teach you some.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Once you get to my house, I would love to cook typical Mexican dishes. Yeah, I know you'll want tacos since I am Mexican. So, of course, I can make it for you. But I was hoping you could learn that tacos aren't the only thing we eat in Mexico. We have Chilaquiles, Enfrijoladas, sweets such as Obleas, cocadas (coco sweets), and so much more. My goal here is for you to change how you view Mexico if you need to learn about the culture. If you have been here before or know some things, that's great! Then, it will be easier for me to explain myself. For those staying at my place: I hope you don't mind, I have a dog and a cat at my place.
