Music, Movies, and Books
You know that question that everybody hates because the answer will be so long and so you start answering it but really you think the person who first came up with it belongs in a special hell designed to people who talk at the theater ? That’s the one.)
I’ll try anyway. Science-fiction has a special place in my heart because it’s a way you have to talk about people and societies without them putting any barriers ; to me it’s the most efficient tool to put seeds in people’s souls and ultimately change the world ? Alain Damasio is my current hero, but let’s not forget the classics Asimov and Herbert, right ?
Fantasy-wise, I grew up with the saga Tamir’s triade, from Lynn Flewelling, and I came back to it as an adult and was happy to find that all along it had been about gender identity. Boom. See what I was talking about ?
When people ask for my computer’s password, I usually reply « speak, friend, and enter » and then decide wether I’ll be friends with them. I once put a V for vendetta quote in a philosophy essay on aesthetics, and I definitely have some of the French show Kaamelott running through my veins. One of my last very great discoveries is written in French : La guérilla des animaux. Also, Good Omens. Also, Black Sails. I hate this question. It’s like I’m not being fair to the art I love.
Outside of fiction, some life-changing books : Nobody wants to read your shit, Still Writing, The view from the cheap seats, Daring Greatly...
Also, Bergson.
Music ! That’s hard. Grew up with Rammstein, turned a little bit more ambient - pagan over time, but I’m really enjoying all kinds of stuffs. Since I discovered the show Crazy Ex-girlfriend I even enjoy musical pieces and I did not see that coming.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I wrote my first book when I was 25 and was lucky enough to get it out into the world. Oh. Writing that statement down feels super weird.
I want to name one, but all my big hitchhiking experiences were transforming to me. I will always remember the great people I met on the road, for less than an hour for some, but they all let their marks on me. I became addicted after that.
Teach, Learn, Share
I studied philosophy and a bit of theater. Somehow I seem to be really good at motivating people to write when they don't feel legit.
