About Me

Bonjour! I'm Melanie, I am 21 years old and I live in Montreal, Canada. Due to history, the province of Quebec is officially francophone, but there many many many Anglophones as well, which make us bilingual. I am a tremendously curious person (I have always been told so) and I appreciate learning new cultures and languages. I would like to be able to be fluent in 5-6 languages in my life; my first language is French, then English and I have been studying Spanish at school. I am currently trying to learn German on my own, and then I would like to learn Mandarin and Portugese, but I might change my mind as I easily want to learn a language when I am exposed to it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am here because my friends have experienced it and they said that it was an overall amazing experience, so that prompted me to create an account. I think this community is so giving and open from what I have seen so far and I am glad to join it. Further, I think it is very interesting when people come back home knowing particular things about the country's culture and knowing some useful words/sentences rather than when they come back as if they had never been in the country. Therefore, being hosted by a local would be so enriching.

Music, Movies, and Books

I appreciate different music genres, but I can say I love pop music, classical music and jazz. As for movies, I can immediately tell you that I hate thrillers or horror movies (I just can't watch them). I prefer to laugh, to daydream about love or to discover a magic world. Needless to say that Harry Potter is among my fave movies; I am such a fan (I was sorted in HufflePuff btw). As for books, of course i loveee Harry Potter books, but these are the only fantasy books that stuck with me throughout the years. Otherwise, I love classics such as Catcher in the Rye as much as any novel or non-fiction book that relates to the Second World War.

Teach, Learn, Share

I was once in the TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) program in McGill University, but I changed programs because I realized I wouldn't be able to teach for 30 years, especially in Quebec/ education system. Incidentally, I do know how to teach English and I do love children and I think I could be of great help for anyone who wants to learn English. By experiencing being hosted in a local's residence, I would like to discover his or her culture and language as there is no better way to have direct contact with a nationality.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach you French or English as much as I can tell you about the culture here in Montreal. Otherwise, we can share truly memorable times hanging out together!
