Overview
About Me
I've spent 25 years living in England. Mainly the north specifically Yorkshire, one of the most beautiful areas of England - and hospitable! We're known for our food and drink and enjoying it greatly in Yorkshire and I'm no exception. After completing a degree in journalism in London I came home to Yorkshire and started working with food, after a year and a half of hard work I was proud to be able to call myself a chef.
Now I'm looking for more experiences overseas, moving to New Zealand in April with a quick gastro-inspiration-stopover in Bangkok.
I love the outdoors being raised in the deep countryside myself and I'm keen to learn more foraging skills in foreign environments if I can.
I can offer to cook and clean in exchange for accommodation but I also love cooking for other people and the occasion of eating food and talking about different experiences of life with other people.
I also love music and photography, I've always felt a deep emotional satisfaction from good beats and my love of cinema started in university where I joined a creative production company and still take stills and video during my travels although previously video editing was my specialty.
Anyway I'm a laid back, respectful friendly guy if you'd like to know more I love to talk about myself!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Planning on spending a while in New Zealand and travelling from the begining of spring in England to the begining of winter in April, so I thought it'd be best to find friends and good times instead of shiverring on a mountainside.
Interests
Love cooking and everything that comes with it. Wanted to be a failed artist at one point but couldn't handle the compulsory mental instability. These days food is how I express my creativity, my girlfriend being a strict veggie and me always being a rural farm type I've had some fun challenges cooking tasty veggie food that is still interesting for me to cook, I'd like to say I've had some good results!
I've taken inspiration from my friends for my taste I would say, I've always preferred the straight talking nature of non english speakers and to try the authentic favourite national flavours of countries such as Nigeria, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, Portugal, Spain and China I feel very fortunate indeed.
I also love foraging, learning about plant species and behavouir and the same for all animals; nature's beauty is constantly breathtaking. I've never been fishing though and I'd love to try so if you teach me to fish I'll gut your catches for ya.
I like drinking games and drinking, sitting in the sun listening to music, dancing by campfires, spontaneous connections, arguing over the quality of beer and chips and condiments, being moved by culture and history, finding treasure, ordering pizza, harvesting your own produce, learning crafts and skills and the list just goes on..
Music, Movies, and Books
Anything Hunter S. Thompson, Terry Pratchett, Chuck Palahniuk, Sylvia Plath or Auldous Huxley/George Orwell for books. Movies is a mixed bag really and music is anything with a beat but most importantly passion.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Worked at Glastonbury for a week and seen the devastation feral humans can inflict.
Teach, Learn, Share
Passionate about teaching and learning the importance of mindfulness in all aspects of life. I've personally used mindfulness through cooking to get me through stressful workplace environments and found that it has fueled my curiosity into biology and interest in horticulture.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Cooking is obvious but I could also produce any creative projects you may be working on, I also have an eye for design I'd like to think, I'm a good conversationalist if you fancy getting deep and I just like to help really so I'm sure you'll find me useful. Oh I can pour a perfect pint of whatever you like and probably cook a steak better than anyone you know. Also I definitely know more about asexuality than you so if you want to know about that, holla!
