About Me
"Dobar sam gost, rijetko dolazim i kratko ostajem..."
"I'm such a good guest, I come rarely and stay shortly..."
As you can see up above, my name is Jure. I come from Croatia, from island of Brač, one of the largest islands in Adriatic Sea. I study history and pedagogy (educational science) in a nearby city of Split, which is great because I'm a real admirer of Mediterranean cultural heritage and mentality and Split embodies all of that. When I'm not occupied with my university obligations, I do some student jobs to provide some pocket money for travelling. I fell in love with travelling few years ago, since then I have visited almost 20 European countries, and I aim to visit them all. I took part in several trips organised by low-budget agencies, but lately I prefer more trips on my own arrangement, using the advantages of low-cost hostels and transport, more often I hitchhike and spend nights in a sleeping bag. I have been hitchhiking a lot across Croatia, but I have also travelled abroad thanks to that skill. My friend and me chose Venice for our first destination to visit by hitchhiking outside of Croatia. That successful venture encouraged us, so last summer we spent a few days hitchhiking across coast of Montenegro. For now, I only have positive experiences and I have met a bunch of great people. Regarding my other interests, besides travelling, I'm very interested in general knowledge. So I like quizzing. I always try to find some break for reading. I read everything, classic literature, travel books, internet columns... Filmography is one of my passions, I admire Tarantino's, Scorsese's, Hitchcock's masterpieces. Currently I'm taking part in a student exchange programme Erasmus and I temporary live in the capital of Slovenia. Ljubljana is a great traffic junction and a convenient place to start travelling.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Some of my friends have always been talking about some online service which is very helpful in finding acommodation and making new acquaintances when you are abroad. Although it seems to be the very best way to meet locals. I was curious, so I decided to check out what's it all about. I took a look and decided to take part in it because I'm ready to offer my place and friendship to others as well. At first I was astonished to find out there is a whole community taking part in intercultural connection. It's amazing that complete strangers can become friends in such a short time thanks to couchsurfing. So I wanna take part in the battle against prejudices, fear and distrust that surround us.
Music, Movies, and Books
I don't identify myself with some specific music genre or movement. So I like various artists: Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Clash, TBF, EKV, Haustor...
My favourite movies... hmmm tough question to answer... Intouchables, V for Vendetta, Irreversible, Reservoir Dogs, Dead Poets Society, Blue Velvet, Padre Padrone, Dog Day Afternoon, Godfather, Godfather II, The Third Man...
Books: Joseph Conrad: Heart of Darkness, Mario Puzo: Godfather, Miroslav Krleža: Na rubu pameti...
