About Me
CURRENT STATUS
I doing research/working at KU Leuven in Belgium as a software engineer until mid-February 2018. While I am here, I intend to see as much as Europe as time and financially possible. Thus far it has been great. Hard to go wrong with Belgian beer and chocolate!
ABOUT ME
Eternal optimist, which goes with an ever present sense of humour. I listen more than I speak, although this has been known to reverse after some hours in a festive pub. Not one for small talk, I would rather dive straight in and discuss/solve the world’s problems or have a deep meaningful conversation (DMC) about some topic relevant to us. A bit of banter in between is essential though.
For those who are into personality type stuff, I am supposed to be an INFP “Mediator” type. The description is fairly accurate:

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am a worker/traveler in a foreign country. While solo travel has been great and I recommend it to all who can, I would really like to meet and make new friends and explore and travel with others.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Last Samurai, The Matrix, Gladiator, Troy, Blood Diamond, Whitehouse Down, Iron Man, Man of Steel, Avengers, The Hunt for Red October, Toy Story, Tarzan, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Swan Princess, Beauty and the Beast (both), The Notebook.
Books: Harry Potter series, Tom Clancy, David Gemmell, The Kite Runner, sports-person and aircraft pilot biographies.
Music: A little bit of almost everything. Pop, classical, choral, old school rock, Afrikaans (sokkie dance) music. If Bohemian Rhapsody comes on in a festive pub, I feel it is mandatory to attempt to sing a long and play air guitar.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once made my sister cry by washing her dirty dishes. Wasn’t quite the reaction I was expecting.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have done quite some traveling while in Belgium, so I am happy to play tour guide to any visitors. I am clued up on rail prices, bicycle rentals, some must see’s and do’s, nice drinking spots, 1 euro waffles etc. If we end up doing some trip, adventure or activity together, I will most likely be that psyched slightly overeager guy leading the charge to the next sight/pub.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I will always be highly respectful of you and your space. If there is some activity/adventure to do, I will be charged and ready for it. Equally at home having a chilled relaxed time talking until morning hours on the couch or out and about having a big night on the town. Definitely willing to take part and buy into food making activities, cleanups, anything to leave the place in a better state than what it was.
