About Me

I like to write. In fact, I write too much. Couchsurfing couldn't handle my initial "Favorites" box, for example. Writing about myself, on the other hand, turns out to be a lot more difficult. I am often told that I am smart, but I fiercly disagree with anybody who says so; I would make the worst quiz partner ever because I won't ever remember a single detail of anything, and my mind is pretty much like existence in Greek mythology as it was before Gaia and Ouranos came into being - chaos: all the time it goes like "which sentence am I going to write here o look my desk lamp just started flickering I wonder what'll happen on the next Twin Peaks episode I'm so glad season 3 is turning out I can't stop thinking about how funny David Lynch's lines are o there's a song from Hans Zimmer starting up right now on Youtube which reminds me I should watch Prometheus even though people told it sucked how many books will I be able to finish this month hey is that a mayfly zipping past my screen I wonder how that one particular person I spoke once 17 years ago is doing la la la la la HE MACARENA" and so on and so forth.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am fully aware of how horrifically childish this is. But here we go:

In less than two weeks time (the 24th and 25th of May) Donald Trump will be landing on Belgian soil, and I refuse to ever be within the same country borders with this clown. Thus I am planning my Great Escape, and since I'm on a very low budget I can't afford much by means of transportation and accomodation. So right now I have this idea to do a great tour on my bycicle and mayhaps find a place to rest.

Music, Movies, and Books

These lists were more impressive before Couchsurfing went loco because of information overload and deleted three quarters of what I had written here. :(

MUSIC:
Alexandre Desplat, Angelo Badalamenti, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Aphex Twin, Apparat, Baby Huey, Bat for Lashes, The Black Keys, Caravan Palace, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple, Django Reinhardt, Goldfrapp, Gorki, Grace Jones, Iron Maiden, Jacques Brel, Lionel Hampton, Megadeth, Moderat, Muddy Waters, Pink Floyd, Plaid, R.E.M., Rammstein, The Rolling Stones, Röyksopp, Sigur Rós, Simon & Garfunkel, Soap&Skin, Tape Five, Tchaikovsky, The Voodoo Trombone Quartet,...

MOVIES:
Big Fish, Boyhood, Burn After Reading, Casablanca, Das Leben der Anderen, Diplomatie, Dunkirk, The Graduate, Intouchables, Jagten, The Lobster, The Longest Day, The King's Speech, Mad Max: Fury Road, Moonrise Kingdom, O Brother Where Art Thou, Quartier Lointain, Spirited Away,... But my absolute favourite will probably remain Donnie Darko for a long while.

BOOKS:
1984 (George Orwell), A Song of Ice & Fire (George R.R. Martin), Ocean Sea (Alessandro Baricco), Kom hier dat ik u kus (Griet Op de Beeck), Kafka on the Shore (Haruki Murakami), Harry Potter (J.K. Rowling), It (Stephen King), Symposium, Apology & Crito (Plato),...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On a wintry morning, a woman walking her dog just started crossing the street. Since I was already running late I was in quite a rush, and I could've driven easily past her, since she was still all the way on the other side of the street - with a small pedestrian island in between the two driving lanes - but still I hit the brakes anyway. Why is this amazing? Because not much later, as the woman was right in front of my car, somebody who was too lazy to scrape all the ice off his front window crashed into my car, wrecking the entire backside of it. He "didn't see me standing" because the ice patch blocked too much of his vision. So my decision to be not selfish in a mundane situation most probably saved the lives of that woman and her dog.
