About Me

I am a proud South African. I grew up in a small town and have also been much more of a fan of the open country side than the big city life. But every once and a while the city's prospects are very enjoyable. I went to school at an all boys school, Grey College and then continued my education at Stellenbosch University, in the heart of the western cape vineyards. I am very active and enjoy taking the road less travelled, or sometimes rather just trod out my own path, in the words of Emmerson...or Strode.
I am very charismatic and have a passion for people seeking to find the gold in each individual. Every person has so much from which one can learn and I love engaging in philosophical and sometimes challenging discussions over an easy glass of wine or pint of beer.
I am a Christian and devoted to building the spiritual kingdom of Christ. I am very family tight, both for my physical family and spiritual. I embrace all cultures as far as it is in my capacity and I would like to think that I am very open minded!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am new to this sport, and to be honest an impending Europa trip has set the ball in motion. I am not quite sure what my take on it will be but I love the initiative. It's a wonderful way of connecting complete strangers building friendships across borders. The reason I'm interested on joining this platform is that I think it gives you an incredible opportunity to not just travel but really have a much more intimate experience of the culture you are engaging in. Oh, and did I mention that it is cheaper...#studentwallet. No but seriously, I will be travelling alone so for me it makes a lot more sense to meet up with locals and get into experiencing some real culture....

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Folk, Indie, Alternative Rock, Classic Rock, Christian, Singer Songwriter
Movies - True stories, Adventure, Suspense, Action...actually any movie with a non superficial plot. But I like war and sport movies.
Books - The Lord of the Rings!!! Any CS Lewis book. Otherwise fantasy, business or biographies. Oh and I have a guilty pleasure of still reading a comic now and then, mostly Asterix&Obelix and Tintin...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled with my family to Kenya and back by car over a period of 6 weeks.....and we were still a family afterwards.
I've done the Big 3 Eastern Cape Hikes and the Fish River Canyon!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am extremely relaxed but will always be keen to mission on an adventure. I'm really NOT into clubbing or jolling till late at night, but over a good bottle of wine I can talk/philosophies for hours...
And I do have a coffee addiction yes...but I always travel with my mocha pot...
