About Me

Hi there!

My name is Amber and I am 24, currently living in Leeuwarden and studying Biotechnology at a University of Applied Science (Bachelor). For those of you who do not know what biotech entails: for my studies I have made a theoretical vaccine against the EBOLA-virus, made beer using micro-organisms and much more that is too complicated to explain here.

There are many things I care deeply for. My family and friends, but also my studies are very important for me, because my goals are high just like my expectations to perform well. Short said: I work hard, because I want to create a cure for cancer. Many smart, good and motivated people are researching many possibilities and ideas to achieve this, but I hope one day I can contribute to a very noble goal (yes, I know it is self-proclaimed) and I will do anything to do so.
Until I can start to achieve that life goal, I’m studying and will be for the next 6-8 years.
No one’s ever said that the path to success is a short one.

Anyways, other things you maybe want to know about me:
I love filling my time with reading Harry Potter and writing fanfiction occasionally. But not just J.K. Rowling’s books can capture my attention, I also like Dan Brown’s books, finding Inferno and Origin (yes, I finished it within three days after it came out) the best so far.

I also like roller skating/blading as a way to workout, finding it way more fun to do that than anything else. Clearing my head skating through the little farm roads way out of the city, seeing everything.

Soon, (in January) I want to move to Utrecht to live near the hospital there, to continue my studies by doing my internship there. By then I hope to have room to host you lovely couchsurfers!
Until then I’m afraid I cannot host, even though I really want to, but I don’t have any space.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing to meet interesting people from all over the world of course! I want to welcome and everyone warmly in the Netherlands who want to learn our culture, who want to learn about Europe and show them all the beautiful places to see.

What I love about couchsurfers, is that the ones I have met, are very open to a lot of ideas and experiences, enjoying everything that is different and new. Seeing the beauty in all that is different, instead of being afraid of it. That is why I love to talk about everything with all kinds of people, because of their different opinions. If you want to get wiser, you listen and ask. The topics I always enjoy are politics, biochemistry, immunology and anything that is related to biotechnology, Harry Potter and travelling. I also enjoy answering moral questions like obligating donor registration, having discussions about making euthanasia easier, cyber privacy, legalizing drugs and discussing the origin of the human existence, just because we can.

I am interested in your stories, opinions and beliefs, because I want to get wiser. I want to ask you what you think is the most beautiful place in the world and why, I want to ask you what made you come here out of all the countries you have chosen. Why? How?
Like I stated previously: If you want to get wiser, you listen and ask.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have made a theoretical vaccine against Ebola.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach. I am of course fluent in Dutch being a native Dutchie, however I don't like teaching people, simply because I am impatient at heart. So it's best if you find someone with patience who is a better teacher and enjoys explaining Dutch. I can and will teach you our customs, like giving each other three kisses on the cheek on their birthday, being blunt like we Dutch people are and so forth.

Learn. I find learning is one of the most gorgeous abilities humanity has. I want to be able to speak 10 languages, gather so much information that I can cure cancer and all other diseases, viruses, you name it, but I can't. Because life is short, and unfortunately the human brain has its limits, so I have decided to choose a few things I want to learn. I want to learn how to speak and write Spanish, I think it is a lovely language (my heart melts at every word) and I feel that Spanish can get you quite far, because so many people can speak Spanish. I want to understand why some people aren't interested in learning, because for me it is such a gorgeous concept. And finally, I want to learn everything I need to, to achieve my life goal.

Share. I love sharing. Everything. I think sharing makes the world kinder place. Like sharing your home with a complete stranger who needs a host in your hometown, like sharing stories about your past, sharing your culture, your wealth (not money, but love, information etc.), but I have to warn you, I have specific boundaries what I do and don't share. But you'll figure it out.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I can share is my passion for my studies, I can show you gorgeous places in the Netherlands. I can offer information about Europe, the Netherlands, customs, culture and beliefs. But I can also show you the best places to have a party!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Serbia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
