Overview
About Me
I'm a twenty-four year old mathematics student. Well actually I graduated a week ago, but I haven't officially received my diploma yet, nor do I have a job, or do I want to face the responsibilities coming with it, so let's stick with student for now.
I'm of double nationality: Dutch-Belgian and have lived in both countries. At the moment I just moved back from Brussels to the Netherlands. Next to that I have lived in Berlin for half a year.
I absolutely love meeting new people at any time and place, because if you're truly willing to listen you'll find out that every single person has an interesting story to tell. Personally I can go from being a patient listener to a hyperactive, talkative person.
Nature keeps amazing me time and time again. There's nothing like watching the first blossoms of spring, or colorful autumn leaves falling from great trees. Therefore I like to hike, especially in the mountains (I've been in love with the Alps since I was a little boy).
Next to being in nature, art in all it's forms can bring me to a dreamy state. Whether by listening to classical or electronic music, by watching a beautiful painting ('the wanderer above the sea of fog' by Caspar David Friedrich is my favourite one) or reading an good book.
Furthermore, I love to cook, like to do sports and will go crazy on the dance floor if you put on the right music (ehm, yes, the alcohol content can indeed also stimulate the craziness a bit).
In conclusion, I am a diverse, outgoing guy, who likes to defy the stereotype of mathematicians.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Through couchsurfing I would like to experience travelling in a different way.
To get a better view of the places and the cultures, that I visit by meeting locals.
Of course it is also exciting to meet new people and perhaps host them later in my home country!

Music, Movies, and Books
My absolute favorite piece of music is without any doubt Tchaikovsky's violin concerto. I can listen to this piece time and time again and somehow it touches me everytime I hear it. It's a piece that can comfort me when I'm sad or accompany my mood when I'm estatic.
I'm not that big of a movie fan, but Tarantino's movies are always brilliant, pulp fiction being my favorite.
My favorite book is 'Het verdriet van België' (The Sorrow of Belgium) by the Belgian author Hugo Claus, although this book is probably not that well-known under the non-Dutch speakers. In general I am a big fan of classic works. One that I recently read and much loved was Thomas Mann's 'Der Tod in Venedig' (death in Venice).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
It's quite difficult to pinpoint a specific amazing things. Maybe it's easier to mention a characteristic of mine that I'm proud of. As I'm a good listener, I helped a lot of friends by providing them with a patiently listening ear and when necessary a hug or even a shoulder to cry on.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can do your mathematics homework ;).
Or perhaps we can exchange recipes or cook together. As I've lived in a lot of different places, I've got a lot of experiences to share and can help you improve one of the four languages that I speak.
What I Can Share with Hosts
It all begins with good food! I love cooking and sharing meals with others. There's no
better cure for a rainy day than a proper meal with a good beer or wine.
Over the course of such a meal we can share good stories, peculiar experiences and laughs. Or I can comfort the other if they need it.
