About Me

I'm an Aussie travelling the globe for six months to recharge the creative battery and am taking time off from being a Drama/English teacher and theatre Manager. I love the creative arts, books, travel (clearly), running, outdoor adventures and, perhaps most importantly, food and a good cup of coffee. I am brand-new to Couchsurfing but am learning all about this awesome community.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently on a six month sabbatical to travel the world and experience as much theatre as possible. I don't have much of a plan, I like to travel pretty spontaneously, so there's a heap of freedom in couch surfing. I've also travelled a lot before, so I'm far less interested in doing touristy things and want to meet local people and share experiences. Being on the road for six months can get pretty lonely so every person I stay with that can hang out is a new friend.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a huge film buff and have knocked over a decent chunk of IMDB's top 250. Most of all I am a massive Wes Anderson fan, 'The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou' being my absolute favourite of his.

In terms of literature there is not enough space to properly explore that topic either but here are a few:
* Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' is perhaps my favourite book of all time
* Jerome K. Jerome's 'Three Men In A Boat, To Say Nothing Of The Dog' is the funniest book I've read
* 'David Copperfield' is one of my favourite classics
* I love time travel novels so 'The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August' and 'The Time Travellers Wife' are great

And I love poetry but definitely need an expert to talk me through contemporary poets, I'm only a dabbler. I love Billy Collins and classic poets like Wilfred Owen and WB Yeats.

I have a very eclectic taste in music, anything from Tame Impala to Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats to old-school Black Sabbath or Aussie rock.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My favourite trip was a twenty-day drive around Bosnia & Herzegovina - the landscape was amazing, the people were so friendly and the history both powerful and fascinating.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have an encyclopaedic knowledge of jokes. Though admittedly most of them are outrageously rude and inappropriate and might not always jump the cultural boundaries.

I also like to cook and could whip up a mean breakfast when push comes to shove. I don't know what classifies as 'Aussie' food but I can also do a mean Thai curry.

And I love games. Board games, card games, and video games. If you need a challenger I'm your man. I'll learn anything.
