About Me

Hello there! Nice you read my profile!

My name is Ruth Baelen, a 21 year-old Belgian student physiotherapy, exploring the world and life in a broad sense.

INTERESTS:

I love spending time in the beauty of wild nature, cooking and trying out new recipes, hanging out with friends, playing with my dog (a beautiful border collie), and last but not least traveling!
Athletics is my current hobby, more specific short distance.
My friends describe me as easy going, studious, talkative, critical and always ready for some new, suprising adventures, like couchsurfing ;)
Grewing up near a forest made me appreciate nature, it certainly has a huge importance to me. I care about the enviremont and I am trying my best to protect it, for example by avoiding plastic, eating sometimes vegetarian, local and seasonal products.

Besides that, I love dark chocolate, deep conversations, Greenpeace, the sun, tea, children and growing my own vegetables.

One of my dreams, if possible, is moving to Spain or Italy and keeping myself busy in a small farm and drinking a good glass of wine when I'm retiring. But meanwhile let's not forget to enjoy the present, in the end of the day of is all we have.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm very curious and always want to know why and how things happen in this big world. That's for sure the main reason I prefer couchsurfing, because locals always teach you so much more about their country, traditions, diverse habits, opinions, religions, ways of living and so on. Visiting a country is incomplete without meeting some real locals. It gives you the opportunity to see things from different perspectives and that's is the key to understand eachother in my opinion

-> I love this book! Although I don't read frequently, I am convinced this is definately a must read about a refugee and his compelling journey.

Music: RnB, hiphop, rock , classic music and other kinds of music, except heavy metal

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Group trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar. Best experience of my life! I was shocked by its beautiful nature, the warming hospitality of the locals and their basic lifestyle. But most of all, it made me think about the meaning of happiness and it changed my perspective on many things in our society.
