Hello! My name is Katy. I'm a singer/songwriter and have been a fairly non-stop traveller since leaving university, sometimes with a partner but also alone which has opened the way to some of the most special experiences.

I was born in Australia but studied BSc Environmental Science in the UK and later worked in ecology as wildlife and natural habitat conservation is very important to me. Three years ago I changed paths a little to have more time to concentrate on music/art and learn Spanish as South America and Latin culture/music has always been a strong draw for me. I had no talent for languages at school and felt the only way I'd learn is moving abroad.

So for the last 3 years I've been living in the Canary Islands, Spain. Here I've been working on an album with local musicians whilst teaching English and taking two long journeys through South/Central America and Africa.

I love to meet people from new cultures and visit their favourite local hangouts as opposed to tourist spots and am interested in live music, art, yoga, natural construction, cooking, wildlife, surfing and walking among many other things.

I love to meet new people from the local town and not just visit touristy places.

I'm a happy and friendly person and also pretty relaxed. Although I love being active and I'm also really happy just enjoying a quiet evening watching the sun go down or cooking a meal with a few friends.

World music and adapting different folk music from around the world to my own songs is one of my favorite things to do whilst travelling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Every best travel experience I've encountered throughout the world has been through the connections made with local people and I think couch surfing is a great way for creative/friendly people to help learn from each other and share their cultures.

Favourite books.. Ahh difficult question. It was always John Steinbeck but I love many different authors and one off novels.

Favourite movies are generally world cinema such as Chilean 'Machuca', classics like Amelie, Withnail and I, Woody Allen, Cohen brothers, Almodova, Tarrentino, Not a fan of Hollywood cinema but do like some classics.

Hitchhiked from Guatemala to Alaska when I was 18-Many good travelling stories and experiences since then.. Too many to write down in fact so better shared in person!
