I think one of my best experiences was a round trip through Peru and the Anden when I was doing a school exchange in Arequipa.
Another great experience the year after I finished my A-levels in Germany. I went to live for one year in Chicago, USA. I worked during the week and on the weekends I traveled through the whole country (NY, LA, San Fransisco, Seattle, Washington DC, Hawaii, Toronto and even Mexico)
