About Me

Hello/bonjour/hoi/merhaba! I'm Hale, and I am currently studying Philosophy and Western Languages and Literatures in my hometown Istanbul. To sum myself up, I love learning new languages, even though in most of them I am on a basic level that I can only order food or count to 20. I love working with children, being in museums or just chilling on a balcony or a hammock with a book in my hand.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I guess for the reason why many people are here too: to get to know new people while having the local experience!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: It really depends on the day. I am really interested in listening to rap in different languages, that's a special interest of mine. Artists that I'm listening to the most at the moment include: The Black Keys, Tame Impala, Bon Iver, Kid CuDi, Chet Faker, Childish Gambino, Asgeir, Tash Sultana, Stavroz, Kendrick Lamar, Flume...
Books: I love dystopian books. My all-time favorite one in that genre is 1984. I also love reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Shakespeare...there are many more, for I have to read a lot for my major.
Movies: To be honest, I'm more of a television series person. Recently I have finished The Sinner; and Black Mirror, Sherlock, The Good Wife are my all time favorite tv shows.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This one is tough to answer. Feeding a moose with my mouth in Sweden? Visiting the Vestmannaeyjar islands in Iceland and baking a bread in the volcano? Or just learning how to survive in the Dutch cold and live on my own in the Netherlands for a while?

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach basic Turkish to anyone who'd love to learn. I would love to learn some basics in other languages as well!
I am fond of long deep talks, so I guess I can be a great company for that as well! My philosophy major helps a lot on this one I guess.
