I am a life-long resident of south Louisiana. From 1994-2019 I published a free mailed publication. Presently I am freelance writer and am developing the sales/marketing effort for a small tech startup. I have a deep interest in history and politics, the two subjects that make people either bond or clash quicker than any other subjects.

I originally joined Couchsurfing when it was brand new many, many years ago but I never took the next step to actually stay with anyone. I have rented rooms from people in Australia and Ireland and both turned out to be great experiences. In January 2018, an avid couchsurfer I've known for a couple of years shared her experiences with the people she's met off this site with me and it really hit home. I travel for a variety of reasons but if I return from a trip without having made new friends, then it wasn't a successful trip. As she explained to me, people join couchsurfing not as a business but as a social networking tool. That really resonated with me.

Excellent question. When a local sheriff three years my senior died unexpectedly in late 2014, I challenged myself to do three things:
1) Spend at least 100 days each year outside my home state for three consecutive years,
2) Visit at least 12 countries per year for three years,
3) Sleep on all seven continents within one 12-month period.
Mission Accomplished.
