About Me

Hi, I'm Pol, born and raised in Barcelona. Since I was a kid I've always loved all things old and all things different, and traveling has been a great way to satiate this thirst for knowledge and new experiences. I studied history and I'm currently working as a researcher and professor at the University of Barcelona, while I finish my PhD on medieval history. I also work on archaeological digs when I have the time!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I find solidarity between random strangers a very rare and precious thing, and something I surely want in my life, as a taker and a giver. And because, even if it may sound overdone, I love traveling but I hate being a tourist. I think that socializing, meeting new people, sharing a meal, a chat, a drink with a fellow human is one of the greatest pleasures in life.

Music, Movies, and Books

I will binge on almost anything, although I do have some standards. Lately I've been enjoying a lot of Pulp, The Smiths and other jewels of 90'S English alternative pop. Since I've been in Italy I've also got in touch with some Italian cheesy classics like Franco Battiato or Nada.

When I was a kid Star Wars and Indiana Jones had a great impact on me, and when I was an edgy teenager the same happend with the Godfather or the Clockwork Orange, to name a few. Since then I've enjoyed different movies, although I wouldn't call myself a cinephil.

Regarding literature, I've always had king of a crush on classic Russian literature, specially Chejov. On (slightly) more recent authors I like Vassili Grossman, Emmanuel Carrère or Quim Monzó.

Teach, Learn, Share

Local and international cultures, history... I also have a respectable amount of trivia stored in my head, for some reason.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good talk, a home-made meal, a bottle of wine on me. I'm very good at losing at tablegames.
