About Me
Hello! My name is Marlene but all my friends call me by the nickname Adam (the story behind that is neither very long nor interesting but if you ask I'll tell you anyway).
I'm a physics students but haven't been for very long so if you want to know about the big bang theory you're better of watching the TV show, don't ask me. I'm less of a nerd than most physics student (and also less bearded) but probably still am one.
I can be a little shy at times but traveling and hanging out with various very cool strangers through couchsurfing meet ups and such has helped me overcome that for the most part, and I'm looking forward to many more experiences of that sort.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While I've only used couchsurfing as a guest a few times with my family when I was much younger, I used it's hangout and event functions many many times on my little Europe trips. Hanging out and having little adventures with a bunch of crazy people you just met, from all kinds of different nations, is what the word traveling became to mean to me, whereas anything else is more of a classic, kinda boring vacation.
Interests
I love making music (guitar at home and ukulele on the streets), although I'm not incredibly skilled, it's enough to accompany my singing. Used to busk a lot and I'm always hoping to get that started again soon. Though I said I was a little shy, sometimes I'm just so quiet because I like to listen to other people, simply learning about their experiences with traveling or growing up in a different culture than mine.
Music, Movies, and Books
I probably have been scolded more times by my roommates for not knowing any movies, than I've been to the movies. I am soo sorry. I don't like movies.
The one thing I'm really passionate about as regarding books is the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. I grew up on it. It's a great series. And I WILL bring it up and you will want to read it.
As to music, spotify has a tendency to recommend me weird experimental alternative rock where people yell a lot and do keysmashes on their pianos. And sometimes that's ok. But normal music is also pretty neat. Some favorite artists include Arctic Monkeys, Cage the Elephant, the Strokes, Halestorm, The Black Keys,..
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The first time I went to a couchsurfing meet up, I ended up playing ukulele at the steps of Sacre Coeur, three other travelers from across the world just dancing along with me. :D
Teach, Learn, Share
I'll be happy to join any jam session, try any food that does not contain ginger and share any story, all provided I'm drunk enough (a subject on which I unfortunately am quite picky actually, I am a family disappointment with no taste for beer at all)
