About Me

Hi there! My name is Andrew, I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I spent two years living in Italy during high school, and then went on to study in the US and also in Cape Town. I love traveling and meeting new people, and feel very lucky to have met so many wonderful people from around the world and learned about their cultures, languages and cuisines. I hope to continue to do just that!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people. To find affordable accomodation when I’m traveling. To share my city with people who visit Johannesburg. To spread the Couchsurfing love!

Music, Movies, and Books

I can't pretend I'm very discerning when it comes to music, but I like most forms of music and myself play classical guitar.

Although I am a slow reader, I love books. Some of my recent favourites are (maybe we match on some of these? =)

Ready Player One (Ernest Cline)
Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden)
Siddartha (Hermann Hess)
The Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway)
Captain Corelli’s Mandolin (Louis de Bernieres)
Angela’s Ashes (Frank McCourt)
The Fault in Our Stars (John Green)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The best thing I've done in the last couple of years is the Alta Via 1 hike in the Dolomites. 120km, 7000m of elevation gain, through some of the most beautiful mountains in the world.

And if I might be permitted to add a second novelty, I met Nelson Mandela when I was a little boy. I met him at a charity cricket match in Johannesburg, and he shook my hand and even gave me his signature! =)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am happy to help around the house or cook a meal. Although I enjoy speaking Italian when I'm in Italy or French when I'm in France, I am very happy to speak English with any hosts who may want to practice theirs.

Countries I’ve Visited
