About Me

I'm a professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder and I'm also one of the founders and owners of BigSIS, Inc., which is a company that makes software for education institutions. I love teaching philosophy courses at the University, especially those that touch on important issues that we are all confronting in the world today. My hobbies include learning to swing dance and salsa dance!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I was out one night in my home town and I ran into a crowd of couch surfers who were holding an event in Boulder, CO. After meeting several couch surfers and spending the rest of the evening with them, I got hooked with the culture. Everyone I met welcomed me and just amazed me at how awesome they all were. That was my introduction to couch surfing! The people I met that night talked to me about all the places they had visited, all the people (and life long friends) they had met and encouraged me to try solo travel! They convinced me to give couch surfing a shot, open up my place to couch surfers, and to take on adventures!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Got my doctorate in something I'm super passionate about and used it to help advocacy groups pass legislation in my home state!

Teach, Learn, Share

I will never be done learning and I hope to always recognize that despite all the education I've had, I'm always just barely starting to learn. I learn not only when I listen to an interesting podcast, read a book, hear the news, etc. but I also learn when I teach. There's never been a class I have taught where I failed to learn many, many new things. Sometimes I learn in the process of prepping for the class but most often, I learn from the discussion we engage in inside the classroom itself. It's why I love teaching so much, it's because it's also learning for me.

BONUS: If any hosts or guests ever want to grab a beer and learn or talk about philosophy, I'm your guy!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm originally from Nicaragua, so I would be delighted to make a traditional dish from Nicaragua for you to try! While we're enjoying the dish, I'd be delighted to share with you some of the super clever arguments that after many years of teaching, I've found students absolutely LOVE to discuss in philosophy classes.
