About Me

My heart beats for Bots. I’m originally german but born and raised in Botswana. Maun is home...the gateway to the Okavango Delta (most beautiful place on Earth) I grew up without a phone and without a TV. I played in the mud, ran around with bare feet, swam in croc infested waters, went camping in the wild and watched elephants and lions play with their young and chase each other through the bush (these are all things I still do now). I completed high school at an all girls high school in Cape Town. Since then I’ve just been on a gap life...a student of the world. Learning while traveling. I’m always keen to meet new and interesting people, go on crazy adventures and explore magical new places. Laughing is my favourite hobby and I’m on a mission to become a yoga teacher, hopefully a pole dancing teacher too. I like exercising, the outdoors, any adventures, learning something new, food (I love food), listening to stories, meeting new people, dancing and laughing a lot.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to see the world through other people’s eyes, get an insiders perspective. I’d rather eat a home cooked meal, exchange travel stories and explore a hidden waterfall than checkoff all the main tourist attractions. I like to get a feel for a place, the culture, the people etc. And what better way to do that than to live with a local. It’s not always about the places you go but the people you meet along the way. Having said that I’m also very happy to spend the day by myself if I’m pointed in the right direction. I’m very low maintenance. So I don’t need to be entertained.

I also just like the idea of bartering and I like to meet open, adventurous and caring people. And to offer your couch to a stranger for a night or two you must be pretty cool. So I hope we get to meet soon :)

Music, Movies, and Books

All the music in the world. Okay not quite but a lot of it. Love old school like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, the Beatles, Neil Young, Bob Marley the list could go on. RHCP and Counting Crows are definitely at the top of my list. Although I don’t like all of their songs. Can’t forget about Tracy Chapman. I dig Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, Mandoza. Always keen for some Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and Aqua...good tunes for the shower. Angus and Julia Stone, Ben Howard, James Bartholomew, Passenger, Natty, Mumford and Sons...the list could go on and on. I like good music and I love to dance. Movies...I’m not the greatest fan of sitting in front of a screen but if I have someone to watch with then it’s quite nice. There are definitely some killer movies out there and especially some good series. All time favourites are without a doubt Vikings and Game of Thrones. Prison Break, Money Heist and White Collar are also definitely worth a watch. As for books...childhood favourite will have to be the Harry Potter series. I loved The Monk who sold his Ferrari, very good read and I’m always game for Elizabeth George.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve completed a Vipassana Meditation Retreat. I spent 10 days in complete silence meditating from 4:30 in the morning until 9/10 at night. Best and most difficult/challenging thing I’ve ever done. But it’s true what they say the good things in life never come easy. But if you work for it the results keep rolling in. The course completely changed my life. Through it I learned to love myself, to heal and grow from within, to be more present and aware, to be forgiving and loving and calm and to truly love and cherish life. And anything and everything is possible as long as you set your mind to it.
The course gave me a completely different outlook on life. Nothing lasts forever, everything is bound to change at some point...in one way or another. The more you fight what is the more difficult life becomes. Live in the moment from moment to moment. Accepting each moment for what it is and nothing else. Sometimes easier said than done. But the present moment is all we‘ll ever have so it makes absolute sense. If you’re ever looking for answers or are lost in life or just want to do yourself some good go do this course it’s the best gift you’ll ever give yourself. Never try never know. I know though that it’ll change your life in the most wonderful ways.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach, learn, share... I’m for it all. One should learn something new everyday and always share ones own skills, talents, kind words and loving nature with others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories from my travels, my incredible home in Botswana and growing up in paradise. Give tips on where to go and what to do in the countries I’ve been to. I can cook quite well (vegetarian ) and I’m very happy to share some of my recipes, cook dinner etc.
I can be your workout buddy, motivate you to get out for a run, go for a swim in the ocean or do some sunset yoga. I like any adventures, getting up for sunrise, having a good laugh, dancing. I can teach you some German or English and a few words and phrases in Setswana. And otherwise I can share my sparkle with you and hopefully brighten up your life a little.
