Hi there! I’m Ivana, a half-Belgian, half-Croatian university student who lives in Oostende, Belgium. This semester, I don’t have any classes or internships or anything else to do for university. So I am ready to meet some awesome people and have a great time Couchsurfing! x

Volunteering is my passion and I volunteer at three different organisations in my hometown: a rescue centre for birds and wild animals, a dog shelter and a nature conservation group. I also WWOOFed in France last year, which was an amazing experience. I loved to be outside all day and work to help my wonderful host families. I’m pretty sure I’ll WWOOF again this year, or I’ll volunteer through WorkAway or HelpX. Apart from that, I love spending time with my friends and doing whatever, really. I always manage to have a good time, regardless of what we do or where we meet. Going out is another thing I enjoy, and when I go out, I go out all night!

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

MUSIC What music I like depends largely on what mood I’m in. I can enjoy almost any style of music. Usually, I only like one or two songs from the same artist, but here are some (very diverse) artists that appear more frequently in my playlist: Fleetwood Mac, MGMT, Tame Impala, Moderat, Joy Division, Lil Peep, Stromae, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Nero, Martin Solveig, Calvin Harris, Deadmau5, Iggy Azalea ... Currently, I mostly listen to 80’s and house.

MOVIES I watch documentaries on various topics regularly. I really like the ones made by Louis Theroux, he asks spot on questions and can really empathise with his interviewees. Reggie Yates made some great documentaries too. I don’t watch movies often. However, my favourite type of movie is the weird, non-mainstream kind that has a David Lynch feel to it. Burning (2018), Rubber (2010), Lost Highway (1997) ... are just a few titles I enjoyed. Quentin Tarantino is another director I definitely like, but I haven’t seen Once Upon A Time In Hollywood yet. Maybe we could that together one evening? :)

BOOKS I have to read a lot for university, so I don’t read much in my free time. But recently, I read some sci-fi classics: Brave New World, 1984, Darkness at Noon, The Iron heel, and We. All these books describe dystopian futures and I found them very interesting, especially Brave New World.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I finished the “Dodentocht” in the summer of 2018! It’s a 100km walk in Bornem, Belgium. I completed it in 22,5 hours. I never did anything like it before, and although everything hurt when I crossed the finish line, I still loved it!

I’m a real people person and just love to talk, no topic is off limits.

I can learn you some words and phrases in Dutch, Croatian and French. Also, I can tell you about Oostende and Ghent and where to go if you decide to visit those cities. I can share with you my experiences as a volunteer and rookie travel enthousiast. And I can bring you some Belgian beer, chocolates, and waffles, of course!

Fun people make everything fun. I’m down to do basically anything, in good company: long walks in the city or nature, partying, playing videogames, going for a run, cooking, watching a movie ... If you want to do something different but your regular friends aren’t interested, let me know! I love to try out new things.

I will be your friend for (at least) as long as you host me. You want to go out, dance (awkwardly) and sing all night? Let’s go! Do you prefer staying in and playing videogames or watching a movie? That’s cool, count me in. Do you feel like walking all across town and showing me all there is to see? I’m already putting on my shoes. You name it, I’m looking forward to doing it.

That’s really all I have to offer: a laid-back girl who’s ready to make new friends and who’s just wants to have a good time with her host.
