About Me

Alvaro here, a fun and chill guy who loves surfing, travelling, learning languages and meeting new people! There's few things l enjoy more than hearing other people's stories and sharing my own with them.

I'm a Spaniard living in Glasgow so if learning/practising Spanish is something you'd enjoy then l'll be happy to oblige (I have been a volunteer Spanish teacher for a while so I even have experience)!

Although I'm not a qualified surf instructor I will happily teach you to surf or go surfing with you (a local knows best after all).

Finally: I love eating and trying new food so if you take me to a local restaurant to show me your regional specialties the bill is on me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think Couchsurfing is the best way to really see a place and its people, and you're guaranteed to make amazing friends along the way!

Music, Movies, and Books

I absolutely love reading: classics, fantasy, crime... you name it! My favourite book of all time is The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
I also have a passion for classic films and I love the experience of going to the cinema. From films like Novecento, 12 Angry Men or North by NorthWest to movies by Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan or James Cameron, I will be a good partner in a game of film trivia.

Honestly, I enjoy listening to anything from Reggae or Ska all the way to Rock, Rap... there's probably something on your playlist I'll like!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've surfed with seals and dolphins - in the winter, in Scotland, with 5 degree water... very cold but definitely worth it!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you live close to a surf spot I'll be more than happy to teach you the basics of surfing or, if you've surfed before, have an epic session with you!

I've been a volunteer Spanish teacher with a charity for some time. I'm also fairly fluent in French and Italian (and English) so you can practise you languages with me :)

If there's something you're passionate about and would like to teach me I will pour my enthusiasm into learning!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My story and my cheerfulness! I love cooking and trying new food so while I'm with you, your food will be covered for! I speak several languages (see About Me) and I will have a long conversation on whatever topic at whatever time.

If you host me, I will become your friend for life. I will make sure to give and receive updates on our lives years after we meet, because there's nothing more heartwarming than getting a letter from someone you thought had forgotten you.
