Overview
About Me
I’m Ismay, 19 years old and born and raised near Amersfoort. I moved to Amsterdam a year ago, and it’s been the best year of my life, I made a lot of new friends, had so many new experiences and of course learned to take care of myself. I study Latin American studies, entonces estoy aprendiendo español; comprendo mucho del idioma, pero lo hablo solamente un poco. I love animals; I have two hamsters named Brutus and Cassius (available for cuddles when you’re here), two cats at my mom’s house, I’m a vegetarian trying to eat vegan more, and my favourite animals are sharks. My hobbies include playing the guitar, singing, going out with friends or hanging out in a bar and have a beer, listening to and sharing music, going to techno festivals or clubs, and cook (and especially eat) nice food.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To get to know new people, make friends all over the world and get to learn about other people’s culture. I’d love showing you my city, you can often join me and my friends on a fun night of clubbing, or hanging out in our communal room (often drinking, playing the Wii or just talking). I think it's necessary to get to know as many cultures as possible in your life, in order to understand each other, and to make the world a little better of a place.

Music, Movies, and Books
I looooove blues music; it’s good for any setting and any mood. I can also really enjoy some good rock music. Little Mix is my guilty pleasure. The only genre I really dislike is jazz; it makes me nervous. I like to read when I have the time, I also read a lot for uni; especially Dutch, English and Spanish literature. I prefer series over movies at any time, but I really enjoy Disney classics and fantasy movies.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Overcame my fear of flying, which comes in handy when you want to travel anywhere :-)
Teach, Learn, Share
I could teach you some Dutch words and customs, I also tend to share a lot of random fun facts. I’d love to practice my Spanish more, especially speaking-wise. I love hearing about all kinds of cultures, and I'm also super interested in the difference and similarities in languages. I studied Latin and Ancient Greek at uni for a year, and although the course was too hard for me, I’m still super interested in the Ancient cultures.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I’m open, easygoing and of course up to hang out! I’d also love to cook you some nice dinner, maybe introduce you to the world of vegetarian or vegan food, maybe a Dutch dish (although not many of them are that good).
