About Me

A wanderer's spirit and a healer's heart, wrapped up in a bookworm's body. I love sci-fi, languages, tea, bagpipes, and meeting new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the idea of open hearts and open homes for those who wish to bounce around the world! I never feel as at home as I do when I'm traveling, and couchsurfing is a way for me to do so on a lighter budget while meeting amazing people and getting a better feel for the culture. And on the flip side, I enjoy hosting guests and making them feel welcomed and cared for.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

About 7 years ago, on a whim (or divine inspiration) I took 3 1/2 weeks off from my job, packed up my car, and took a solo road trip from Mi to Ca and back. Funny thing? I didn't even know about couch surfing back then, yet that's essentially what I did! The trip's purpose was two-fold:
1. to meet in person a bunch of friends I'd met on Facebook (on whose couches I stayed), and
2. to spread kindness and smiles along the way.

I left anonymous cards with encouraging words on windshields, on bulletin boards, and in the few motel rooms I stayed in. I posted "take one" tab fliers with happy messages on gas pumps, in hallways, and on telephone poles. I brought my Free Hugs sign and made use of it in Texas and New Mexico. It was the trip of a lifetime!

Teach, Learn, Share

We are a home of introverts, so a typical evening consists of movies and maybe some crafting. But I can teach basic knitting and share some craft items for beading or vision boarding.

My Spanish is rusty but my boyfriend knows a little and I know a bit more than he does, so English-Spanish teaching and learning is something we can kind of offer, as well.

There is a glass blowing place (where my boyfriend works) within walking distance which offers paid workshops and free demonstrations, as well as a gallery of beautiful items.

Also within walking distance is a Planet Fitness if you have the black card, and a diner (where I work) with excellent American and Greek food, much of which is made from scratch.

And then there's "the kids." We have a cat and a dog (husky), both extremely friendly, so if you like animals you'll be in heaven over at our place. ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to bake! I would love to whip you up anything from carrot or apple cake to oatmeal cookies to even my boyfriend's favorite "shack mac" (penne, broccoli, cauliflower, and homemade cheese sauce, topped with shredded cheese and baked... sooo yummy!).

I'm also more than happy to help with household chores etc.
