About Me

Hi! My name is Gökçe (27) and I'm currently travelling with my husband Onur (36).

We're a Turkish couple that lived in İstanbul, Kadıköy for a long time, until we had enough of purposeless capitalist living, and decided to search for a greater meaning through relation to kindred spirits, new places and ways of life.

I'm a professional translator and editor for various magazines and publishers, while Onur is a natural-born musician of 20 years. I'm also a amateur digital artist; just a little hobby of mine. Music and arts are an integral part of our lives.

We're more like comrades for life rather than a couple, determined to find our individual paths together and the meaning of true comradeship in the place of posessiveness and an ego-driven toxic relationship. Attaining complete freedom (even from ourselves) is our number one concern in this journey.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Getting to know people, of more like fellow Earthlings, and to be part of a like-minded community around the world is why we've started this journey to begin with. We could do traditional travel and go down the regular tourist route, but that would be pretty meaningless, if you don't actually make friends and have a taste of the local life.

We're mainly doing Workaways for the same reason, but Couchsurfing would be a nice addition of possibilities :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite music includes extreme metal, classic rock, folk music and folk metal, classical, jazz, electronic, new-age, some trance and house, and of course anything authentcic.

We both like sci-fi and fantasy movies, avant-garde movies and plays, independent movies, documentaries, atmospheric works in general and chamber theater.

I'm an editor and my job is all about books, so it's hard to say what kinds of books are my favorite. I usually work with sci-fi and fantasy books, self-help/spiritual books and some popular young adult books. Classical novels are always good to be immersed in.

I also love playing video games. My all time favorite game is Skyrim :P

And, yes, I love talking about aliens :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I managed a burn a boiling egg.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Turkish language, how to draw, how to cook, bake and ferment, and how not to care about every single thing in life.

Onur can teach you how to play many instruments, including accoustic and electronic guitar, bass, drums, bayan (button accordion), bağlama (a Turkish instrument), and a little bit of piano. He also plays mouth-harp, although we don't have any with us right now.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, smiles and free hugs. Delicious home-cooked meals are a given :)
