About Me
Hello my name is Ana María, I'm from Colombia I grew up in Medellín but I'm also from a small island in the Caribbean called San Andrés.
I studied history at the National University of Colombia, the largest public university in my country. And at this moment I am in Toledo, Spain doing a specialty in Human Rights, Governance and Culture of Peace. I am here because I won a scholarship for my community work in my country.
I usually work with women in rural areas of Colombia who have been victims of the armed conflict in my country, the last thing I did was a project with fisherwomen from the Archipelago where I am from.
By the way, I am 23 years old, I consider myself a good speaker. I enjoy walking, landscapes, I am also a good dancer.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm here because it's the first time I have the opportunity to travel around Europe on my own. Also because I do not have much money to travel and my friends recommended this option. I like to meet new people and from different cultures and I think that this is the ideal place to do it.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like music a lot, I think almost everything I like, but my favorite rhythms are Latinos, especially salsa, and Son cubano. For my Caribbean heritage I also enjoy rhythms like Soka, Calipso, reggae. Also dancehall and reggaeton, I grew up listening to it.
Most of the films that I like today are independent and critical films. When I was a little girl I really enjoyed Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings ...
Due to my career I had to read a lot, but my favorite books are from especially Latin American literature: Alejandro Carpentier, Garcia Marquez, Octavio Paz, Dulce Maria Loynaz, etc. From Europe my favorite writer is Yourcenar, I also love Rilken, Goethe, Woolf, etc. I also love poetry.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Thanks to the peace process that my country is experiencing, I had the opportunity to volunteer in one of the areas where the conflict was strongest. I was living in Cauca, in an indigenous reservation, where I worked with 203 indigenous women in a project of historical memory. I think that's the most incredible thing I've done ..
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach Spanish, also to dance Latin rhythms. Share stories, adventures, traditional foods of my country and learn from everything they want to teach me.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my knowledge, they are not many, but I am creative. Also some traditional food dish from my country. I'm good at listening, I can share conversations, landscapes, poems and a friendly face.
