About Me

Hi there! My name is Laura Gordon-Mitchell! I am a 19-year-old student currently studying at the University of British Columbia. I love the outdoors and adore hiking, skiing, running and biking. Being active in all ways is a big part of my life. I am also a major foodie (hence why I moved to Vancouver) and spend as much free time as I can baking and cooking. I am vegan and have been for almost three years but I 100% respect the lifestyle everyone individually chooses to live!! Hobbies of mine include photography, writing and again, baking and cooking! I'm pretty much always down for a chill night with beer, wine, and some good bread.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The primary reason is that in, the summer of 2019, I have decided to travel to Wellington New Zealand to travel and work by myself! I want to experience the culture and the people in the best way that I can and Couchsurfing seems like the absolute perfect opportunity to do so!

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a VAST array of artists but my primary genres are classic rock, rap, and acoustic folk/bluegrass. To name a few: The Killers, The Kinks, Frank Ocean, Passenger, Bob Dylan, City and Colour, Fleetwood Mac, Mac Miller, Mumford, and Sons, LANY, This Wild Life and many, many more.

In terms of movies, the list is even more extensive. Some favorites include The Social Network. Good Will Hunting, Momento, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Silver Linings Playbook (really any film that has decent screenwriting I'm a fan of)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to India on a school volunteer trip in the summer of 2017 and it was an incredible experience. I volunteered by helping younger kids in their English class, reading books and writing!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I have been spending the last four years or so practicing environmentalism and I feel as though I have a vast supply of tips and tricks that can help people learn and practice how to be more environmentally friendly

Learn: I want to learn why people choose the careers that they do and how they ended up in that field! As someone who has a very limited idea about what I want to do with my life, the more I can learn from others the better!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My open mind and love for the outdoors; my ability to make a mean cup of coffee and a damn good vegan muffin and my deep appreciation for a glass of white wine at the end of the day!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Bahamas, Costa Rica, India, Italy

Countries I’ve Lived In
