One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During my WH in Japan I have had the chance to discover the Japanese culture through part time work and my travels. I began in the capital during 3 months to experienced Tokyo lifestyle : small room, 2 arubaito, nomihodai, karaoke, rush hour and week-end at Hakone. It was an interesting experience, but I wanted to discover the countryside and escaped the concrete. That's why, I found a job, near Jogasaki coast, in a resort as a house painter. A perfect transition, to my next volunteer's job in Naoshima Island as a waitress in a cafe. After this 2 months near the sea, I moved in middle of nowhere : Murayama in Yamagata prefecture. During the hottest month in my life, I helped a Japanese family on a farm. Now watermelon, cucumber and eggplant doesn't have secret from me!
In September, I decided to try hitchhiking and camping in Hokkaido. It was a wonderful experience with full of discovery : Japanese "Omotenashi", Ainu tradition, wild nature in Daisetsuzan and shiretoko with bear and whales. After this month, I was full of positivities and energy., ready to begin my biggest challenge : the pilgrimage in Shikoku. I walked 1200 km during 6 weeks through 88 temples. This adventure near Kōbō-Daishi transformed me : both physically ans spiritually.
After all of these adventures, Japan got me!
That's why I returned in Tokyo for my friends and tried to find a permanent job to stay more in Japan. I found 2 jobs as English and French chathost in a café and a part time job as an Assisitant English Teacher in a kindergarten. It was really fun to be paid for discuss with strangers and play with plasticine. Unfortunately get a working visa is more complicated I expected, also Tokyo and people can be really tiresome. That's why I decided to leave Japan and follow my first idea : Go to New Zealand !
