2. Famous for unique local jewelry a special type of necklace called Kolhapuri Saaj .

3. Kolhapur is famous for the shri. Mahalakshmi Temple
is known as 'Dakshin Kashi' or Kashi of the South because of its spiritual history and the antiquity of its shree Mahalaxmi, better known as Ambabai.

The temple takes its name from Ambabai/Mahalaxmi,and it is believed that the divine couple reside in the area. The temple belongs architecturally to the Chalukya empire and may have been first builtin circa 700 AD. Mounted on a stone platform, the image of the four armed and crowned goddess is made of sandstone.

4. As you travel around the rural areas of Kolhapur you will see a lot of sugarcane fields and jaggery factories since Maharashtra is well known to be the largest producer and consumer of jaggery in India.
