About Me

Hey there, I’m Eugenie, or Ngoc if that’s easier for you! Originally from Saigon, Vietnam, I now call Germany home, with a stint in London for my studies thrown in. So, if you need any London tips, I’ve got you covered!

I’m 27 and always up for an adventure, whether it’s traveling to new places or meeting people from diverse backgrounds. For me, travel isn’t just about sightseeing—it’s about diving deep into cultures and connecting with locals to really grasp the heart of a destination.

Even though I’ve moved away, I love sharing insights about Vietnamese culture and life. Just ask!

One of my most unforgettable moments on Couchsurfing happened in 2019. It was my first day using Couchsurfing Hangout in Saigon, and coincidentally, also his first day in the city for a business trip. Fast forward six months, and he proposed! We tied the knot just before the pandemic hit, and since then, he’s been my ultimate travel buddy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Back in March 2019, as I prepared for my first solo trip to Seoul, Korea, I joined Couchsurfing to connect with fellow travelers. Before even setting foot on the plane, I had the incredible fortune of meeting my now-husband through Couchsurfing!

Interests

I’m all about exploring the world and meeting people from every corner of the globe. I love diving into travel stories and chatting about the amazing differences between cultures—it’s endlessly fascinating to me. Food is a big passion too; I’m always up for trying new and exotic dishes to get a taste of different cultures.

Apart from my wanderlust, I enjoy the simple joys of life. You’ll find me buried in books, experimenting in the kitchen with cooking and baking, or getting my hands dirty in the garden. I’m also into staying active with sports and geeking out over nutrition and food history. And when I’m not out exploring or indulging in hobbies, I’m capturing memories through my love for aesthetics, especially film photography—it’s my way of preserving moments in the most meaningful way possible.

And of course, there’s my playful cat, who adds a dash of fun to my everyday adventures.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a deep appreciation for 60s-70s music, acoustic melodies, and jazz—they’re my go-to genres. When it comes to movies, I tend to gravitate towards those with a perfect aesthetic, steering clear of typical romantic comedies. Instead, I’m drawn to psychological thrillers and anything crafted by Ryan Murphy. Some of my top picks include “Amélie,” “Léon,” “Hereditary,” “Split,” “The Great Gatsby,” “Joker,” “Spirited Away,” and the intricate “Dark” series.

As for books, I’m a passionate reader. I’ve devoured all of Dan Brown’s works and have a soft spot for classics like “Lolita,” “The Little Prince,” and “The Godfather.” I also indulge in knowledge-packed books such as “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” and “100 Million Years of Food.” There’s plenty more to discover on my bookshelf—let’s chat about it when we become friends!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing thing I’ve done? Being existing in this life and being a happy person.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can show you a thing or two! Aesthetics are my playground, and photography is where I shine. On top of that, I dabble in 3D art, video editing, and graphic design, so there’s a lot I can share with you in those realms.

Through my time living in Germany, I went from knowing nothing about cooking to becoming a home master chef. I love cooking Vietnamese food and showing people just how amazing our food culture is.

I’ve dipped my toes into many pursuits in life, but mastering them? Not quite yet. It’s all part of the adventure in this vast and mysterious world—I’m always hungry to learn more.

But hey, even if we don’t exchange skills, who cares? Let’s keep it simple, enjoy life, and maybe share a laugh or two along the way. Let’s be friends first!
