About Me

I’m 22 year old girl from Belfast, Northern Ireland. I am currently travelling with my best friend, Gabbie. We started in April in Buenos Aires and we finish in Nashville on the 18th September. We both graduated from uni a year ago with a pointless nutrition degree (Gabbie did phycology). Worked in a call centre for 8 months, basically if you’re Sky tv or Internet wasn’t working we were the ones you called so as you can imagine that was very much a soul destroying job. We then started our travels around south and Central America, working our way up to the states. We are both very easy going people who are just excited to have the opportunity to explore all these different places . I have never used couch surfing before or even heard of it until I met a girl from Seattle while in Bolivia who told me about it. I’m so glad to have been introduced to it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Accommodation in the states seems very different from south and Central America. There are very few hostels which is how we met lots of great people travelling . Couch surfing seems like a great way to meet people who are like minded and love travelling. It seems like a more authentic way to experience the place you are visiting by staying with a local.

UPDATE AUGUST 2019.
We have now been using couch surfing for over a month while travelling in the states and it has honestly surprised us so much. The generosity and kindness of the people we have met and stayed with has blown me away. We have gotten to do things we wouldn’t have thought of as it’s been local suggestions rather than tourist ones. We have genuinely loved every single minute of couch surfing and I can’t wait to get back home and be able to host some people myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I will listen to just about anything (except screamo). I’m always shazamming music I hear around me and my music taste is a mixture of all the people I have met. Big fan of disco and funk music.

Movies: again open to anything, trying to pick a film everyone likes when there are 15 of you (my uni friendship group) is almost impossible so you end up watching movies you wouldn’t normally pick.

Books: I’m a massive bookworm, there is nothing better on a long bus journey than reading a book. So glad hostels in South America have book exchanges so I was never without one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Backpacked around south and Central America
Overcame a fear of heights and walked 707 steps up the side of Guatape in Colombia
Went snorkelling with sharks and stingrays in the Belize Barrier Reef.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: not sure what I could teach anyone to be honest, sarcasm is all I have to offer.

Share: travelling stories about the countries I have previously visited.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We are not the worst cooks in the world, actually I may be but Gabbie is really good at cooking. She’s a vegan and I’m a veggie and she’s amazing at making vegan substitutes. Her mac and cheese is unreal. Wine/beer on us if you are able to accommodate us. We are very respectful people especially to those who are open to hosting us, we won’t leave a mess in your home and will leave everything as found.

Countries I’ve Visited
