About Me

I'm currently living in Medan where I work as an Enterpreanur. I have been living around the world for the past 3 years. This is my first time living in Asia and I'm falling in love with it more and more every day. Couchsurfing has been my way of meeting people and making friends in Medan g; at the moment it's only been through the events, but now that I have my own place I'm eager to start hosting people and to get to know more and more people. My 5 favourite things are: movies, music, cycling, baths and green tea. But there's a lot more to me than that (and don't assume I'm some green tea expert - I just like the stuff and in reality it's not one of my 5 favourite things, I guess I just want to emphasise how much I love green tea and baths. At the same time? Why not!)

If you come to Medan and would like to stay with me then please read the 'my home' section. My place is very small, but I don't want that to get in the way of meeting people and helping travellers out. For me this is a way of getting to know people, so if you're up for a night out then let me know. I'm usually out most nights and if I'm not I can be easily persuaded. If you'd rather relax or do your own thing then that's cool too, but I hope we have at least one moment where we can have a conversation.

I only have one rule: I get a photo of me and every couchsurfer that stays at my place. The weirder the better.

Everything after this point is still about me but it's information that hasn't been updated in 2 years, so if you're looking for a more accurate representation of me then read the above part, and bear in mind that the stuff below is also true to me at the same time. I just don't want to delete what I wrote. I'm way too sentimental that way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting new people. I love travelling. Put those two together and you get couchsurfing.

I hate hotels - they're too expensive, they alienate you from experiencing the honest side of a place, and you don't meet anyone in them.

I love hostels because they're cheap, you meet people, and you have the option of cooking your own food.

I like living as basically as I can. It means I get to save money for the things that really matter.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love watching films and am always up for chatting about them.

My favourite films include: The Breakfast Club, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight, The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Almost Famous, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Cinema Paradiso, Terminator 2, Once, A Serious Man, Whiplash, His Girl Friday, In Bruges, The Fall, Mr Nobody, This is Spinal Tap, Her, Nebraska, Calvary, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Moonrise Kingdom, The Darjeeling Limited, Star Wars, Annie Hall, Clerks, Life is Beautiful, The Naked Gun, The Social Network, Marty, The Departed, Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Sideways, Lars and the Real Girl, My Dinner with Andre, Safety Not Guaranteed, It's Such A Beautiful Day, Princess Mononoke, Angel-A, Toy Story, The Road, 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days, The Lego Movie, Into The Wild, Apocalypse Now!, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Moon, True Grit

Also a huge fan of music, I try and go to as many festivals as I can. I've been to Glastonbury the past 2 years, Reading festival from 2007 - 2012, Latitude, Radio 1's Big Weekend. My music taste is mostly Indie, Alternative, Acoustic and Rock but I'm quite happy to listen to most things. Everyone has a guilty pleasure: mine are Shania Twain and Lady Gaga.

Bands I love: Red Hot Chili Peppers, The National, Belle & Sebastian, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Frightened Rabbit, Glen Hansard, Alabama Shakes, The Tallest Man on Earth, Kings of Leon, The Avett Brothers, Shearwater, Vampire Weekend, The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Beck, Simon & Garfunkel, Wild Beasts, Paul Simon, The Milk Carton Kids, Laura Gibson, Okkervil River, and so so much more

I'm not much of a reader but love to read when travelling as I find it's the only time I get to do so. I love anything by Nick Hornby. My 2 favourite books are Life of Pi by Yann Martel and On the Road by Jack Kerouac. I read both of them whilst travelling, so maybe that's why.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During my working holiday in Pontianak i did a job of pruning in vineyards that i havent tried in my Pontianak life. The job was very hard for me and my hands were painful a lot. I am very proud of myself that i could complete this job for 6 weeks (i really wanted to give up after 1 day hard work!!!). Also i realize that farmers work hard to produce food for people, from now on, i never waste any food..

Teach, Learn, Share

Anyone, you can learn a lot from everyone you meet and the more people you meet the more you know.

And as GI Joe says; knowing is half the battle

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to help out any single way I can. Whether that's cooking, cleaning, or absolutely anything else. Please ask. I'm one of those people who's very happy being thrown into a situation and making the best of it.

I usually get a little gift for the people that host me - nothing big, but something either specific to them or something to give them a taste of England. Something to show my gratitude.

I'm happy not hanging out, but if you are up for going somewhere then I'll happily buy you a drink.

I will work to anyone's plans, and try not to get in the way.
