About Me

Hola/Hi/Kamusta? I’m Oscar Segura. I’m Mexican and currently living in the Philippines.
I work as a Spanish HR advisor for PayPal supporting Latin America. Also, I work as Spanish teacher/tutor as freelance activity. I have taught Spanish in the Philippines because I like it and aside from the pleasure of teaching it is because I think that I have to return the goodness that I have received from this country. In Mexico I taught Humanities and was a great opportunity to grow professionally and also personally. Definitely teaching has given to me a lot of satisfactions and friends. I really believe that our accomplishment in life is when there is a legacy behind. I always bet for the education for a better world.
Aside from teaching I love football. Every weekend I play football and of course I try to be updated about football news in general but over all about Liga MX (Mexican League), and sometimes I check the leagues from other countries. I specially follow the Philippines Football League even though football is not really popular in the Philippines.
Finally, but not less important, I really like traveling. Whenever I have the opportunity I go for a trip or just take a stroll. I have enjoyed every corner of the Philippines I have been in, and also I have taken the opportunity to visit the neighbor countries. Also, while I go back to my home country I try to take a different route just to enjoy the beauty of different places. I think traveling is the best opportunity to learn to live better, and to have a better interpretation of the world and thus be a happy person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think that I have been a simple traveler but I always feel, there’s something else pending to do when I’m in a new place. I feel that I’m just passing by and aside from preparing the trip, learning about the country, walking around, admiring the culture and eating in the place I’m in, it just converts me in a simple visitor. If I meet local people or at least people who are familiar with the place will make the difference. I really believe that Couchsurfing will make me to become from a simple traveler to true traveler. The traveler who is involved in the new country’s culture, the traveler who is open to new ways to interpret the world, and the traveler who becomes committed with the surrounding. A responsible traveler who as a result of sharing, listening and providing to people that is meeting in its way becomes happy and accomplished. Definitely, I’m in Couchsurfing because it will make me to fulfill myself and share my life with others and I will also learn to complete my traveling being.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like listening all kind of music but I prefer listening to rock, and but because of the nostalgia I listen Regional Mexican music every time I can do it

Movies: Antonia’s Line (Memorias de Antonia), The Power of One (La fuerza de uno), Los Olvidados

Books: Totality and Infinity by Emmanuel Levinas, El Laberinto de la Soledad by Octavio Paz

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think the most amazing thing I have done is to come in the Philippines without knowledge of any language aside from Spanish. Being involved of the culture, and teaching Spanish I found out that there is a period in the Filipino history that the Spanish were around and that’s why I tried to document those reminiscences of Spanish culture and language in the Philippines through my collaboration in the YouTube channel Anna La Viajera.

Teach, Learn, Share

Definitely my teaching skill gives me the opportunity to show my mother tongue (Spanish) to those who are interested. At the same time I learn from the experience of sharing life.

I have been interested in languages, so I’m interested in learning Italian and French.

While I meet people normally I share my experience. My peculiar experience of being a Latin American living in Asia and my testimony as a human being.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I can share is my life, my experience and of course in the practical way my mother tongue (Spanish).

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan
