About Me

Hi guys! I'm Luz, a 23 year old girl who's always lived between two worlds. Even though I was born in Argentina, my family moved to Spain when I was 6 years old and I spent 12 and a half years there, absorbing and experiencing the Spanish culture. When I finish high school I moved back to Argentina on my own, leaving my parents and siblings in Spain, because I wanted to study Translation in the UNLP (National University of La Plata). Nowadays I'm a freelance translator here in Argentina and I work with my boyfriend, who's also a translator! We both love traveling and having the chance of meeting new people and getting to know new cultures and world views. We'd love to meet you, share our culture and experience with you, and learn from yours. And also, of course,we'd love to share some Argentinian or Spanish dishes with you!
I'm a very polite and cheerful girl who loves having a nice conversation about whatever topic that might come up. And if you are a F.r.i.e.n.d.s. fan, we're going to get along really well!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I decided to sign up in Couchsurfing because I think it's a great option for travellers all around the world who not only want to travel but also be part of a unique experience, sharing their time with local people who can contribute a whole lot more to the trip experience. I'd love to have you over if you ever come to La Plata and I'll make sure you have a great time here. And if I happen to be a guest in your house, I can assure you that I will do my best to be the perfect guest!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love nearly every kind of music, except, maybe, for heavy metal. But one of the perks of having lived in more than one country and having studied Translation into English is that you get to know many different music styles and artists. My boyfriend has an impressive knowledge of music, regardless time, style or country. So being with him has given me the chance of discovering so many artists and bands I had never heard of.
As for movies, as long as the audio is original, with or without subtitles, I enjoy watching anything: from romantic films, to action, thriller and horror ones. Of course, it depends on my mood and how tired I am... If I'm exhausted and don't want to make much effort, a comedy is always a good choice. But If I've got more energy and I'm up for something deeper, thrillers are my favourite.
Nevertheless.... there's one series I'm a total freak of: F.r.i.e.n.d.s. !!! I love it and know nearly all the lines by heart... !

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Let's say that staying still has never been my strength... When I was 16 I moved to another city to study the International Baccalaureate and ever since I was 15 I knew that wanted to fly 12.000km overseas to study in Argentina. And so I did ! I've been living here in Argentina for five years now and I think it's helped me grow as a person, I feel I am a much more mature "young adult" now and I see life differently. Being away from my parents and siblings is not always easy... But those hugs and kisses every time we reunite are priceless! I definitely think that having left a whole life behind me to start over in another country is something pretty amazing. And it is an experience that, though hard sometimes, I'd definitely recommend to young people.

Teach, Learn, Share

Apart from being a freelance translator, I'm also an English teacher, so teaching is part of my everyday life! We could talk for ours about Argentina or Spain and I could tell you anything you'd like to know about their cultures, customs and traditions. Also, I could cook a traditional dish for you if you're interested in any of those countries' cousine or in trying new flavours and textures, I swear you won't regret it!
And of course, this goes both ways... I'd love to learn a lot about the country you're from or are living in.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer you a super polite guest who's really looking forward to discover new world views and learn lots about new cultures. I could also teach you some Spanish or English or help you practice if you're already a relatively fluent speaker or just want to have a relaxed and informal chat in another language.
I'm also a very good cook! So if you'd like to share a meal sometime, I'd be more than happy to cook some really tasty dishes for you!
