About Me
Hey, I'm Lea, and super excited to meet lots of new people and travel around.
Things that I'm interested in are outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking, camping, surfing, the list goes on. I also enjoy playing music, I can play a bit guitar and play the cello in an orchestra at home. I'm not much of a party-goer and rather spend my time reading a good book or being outdoors.
At the moment I'm still living at home so that I can pay tuition (and also because my parents and sister are great), so hosting will sadly be very difficult.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Last year, I studied abroad in Adelaide, Australia for 5 months, which was the first time I left Europe. What made the experience amazing is that I met so many great friends, did travel trips together (such as going to Kangaroo Island, Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand) and just had an awesome time. Later that year, two friends that I had made in my stay abroad come over to my place in the Netherlands and stayed for a week. They introduced me to couch surfing and talked a lot about all the cool people they had already met through using it. So with my interest peaked, I want to put my self out there for making new friends, instead of just using a youth hostel next time I travel.

Music, Movies, and Books
I really love reading books, mostly fantasy, young adult or contemporary. My favourite book of all time is 'The Name of the Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss and I really hope he finishes writing book 3 after 13 years.
I like many genres of music (including musicals) and mostly listen to orchestral soundtracks while studying. At the moment I listen a lot to AURORA in my downtime, as her music helps me feel inspired.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was 16 years old, I boarded a plane alone. Does not sound like much does it ;-) It was a big deal for me, however, as my family never travelled outside the Netherlands and I had never been on a plane before. So when I was 16, I went on my first trip alone to the UK to stay with a penpal for a couple of weeks to improve my English skills. This was my first travel experience and I can't get enough of it since.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have a childlike enthusiasm for rocks and fossils, so if you want to go with me on a hike don't be surprised if this topic suddenly comes up. I love nature and really like understanding all the processes that go into making a landscape the way it is now.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I really like having good conversations about differences in culture and about personal experiences. Travelling abroad has made me aware that my normal can be very different all around the world and I'd love to broaden my horizons even more. I am also very passionate about sustainability and the environment, which is why I'm currently studying the Master Earth, Life and Climate at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Two years ago I adopted a vegan lifestyle and have been loving it! If you're interested I'll happily talk about the planet for hours. I know the word vegan can often scare people away but it has been a pretty amazing change for me since I started! Ask me any questions you might have :)
