Overview
About Me
I started travelling alone and recently a woman I randomly met told me about couch surfing. So I’m completely new here! I quickly realised that I loved travelling but that I miss the interaction with other people while I’m away. I made friends with some locals on my last trip to Sweden and it changed the whole experience completely. It was so much fun to hear about the city from their perspective and have someone show you the sights worth seeing.
I would like to think I’m a kind sociable person who knows how to respect other people and their boundaries. I love meeting new people and making friends. Although, I find that difficult living in a rural area in England so I decided to give couch surfing a go! I would say I’m confident but polite, adventurous but not wild. I can take or leave alcohol, I am vegetarian also :) I’m relatively well educated and all kinds of conversation topics interest me. Anything from history to star trek to environmental issues! Best to keep politics out of things I find though!
I live on the western edge of the Lake District in England. I’m about 50 west of Carlisle and 20ish mins outside of Keswick & Derwent Water.
I do have children but I love to get out and travel when the kids are staying with family. I’d also be more than happy to host guests and even families in my home if and when I am free. I work remotely for a Dutch IT company which means I work a lot from home but I can also work while I’m travelling. I’m really very lucky with my job!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to see new things, experience new cultures, have adventures, be more social!
Interests
Sightseeing, Languages, travel, culture, food, science fiction, museums.
Music, Movies, and Books
I don’t watch Horror movies alone! They terrify me. I love science fiction, action, comedy. I like all types of music. My two most favourite songs are Elvis - Can’t help falling in love and Bob Dylan - Make you feel my love. I have tons of books but never enough time to read them all! My favourite book though has to be to the Book Thief.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
It may not be adventurous to some but I opened my mind to new experiences, stepped outside of my comfort zone and as a result now have close friends from Holland, Poland, Pakistan and Russia and have travelled alone in Sweden. I would love to see that friendship group and travel list grow :)
Teach, Learn, Share
I learn Russian so anyone who can help with this is more than welcome in my home! I know a little Urdu but only very basic phrases! I love to game if I ever find the time (I’m a bit of a nerd at heart). I can cook to a reasonable standard, I love to get out and have a social drink, go walking, light hikes or sightseeing! I’m not into serious hiking. I’m happy to collect from the nearest big station and even give you a lift or take you places so you can experience the Lakes here without having to worry too much about transport. I have two large sofas, a double air bed and bedding, if you have a family I can possibly provide some bunk beds too (if my kids aren’t home!). There’s also a double bed (mine) you could use if needed. I’m really quite flexible but only if I don’t have my own family to care for at the time.
