About Me
Hello there!
I'm a Brazilian studying Computer Science with Psychology at Iowa State University, in the US. Currently, I'm doing a semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh!
I know my name is kind of hard to pronounce (if you know Spanish, it's almost the same thing as Guillermo!), but most people either call me by Gui (think of the first sound of the word 'guild') or Shiro, because of my last name.
I've spent most of my life in Brazil, where I graduated from a Spanish high school, and now I'm trying to visit different countries to experience new cultures and make friends!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
One of my goals is to explore as many countries as I can, so that I can learn about new cultures and, most importantly, make new friends! So I'm using Couchsurfing as a tool to further this goal (and not go bankrupt whilst doing it!)
Interests

Music, Movies, and Books
Music-wise, I listen to a lot of different stuff, but my usual go-to would be rock, pagode and mpb (those last ones are Brazilian styles). I'm always eager to listen to new genres as well!
Now, for movies? I would probably be torn between Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings, but I could never pick a winner.
Finally, book-wise is another tough one. If nostalgia had a say, it would definetely be between A Song of Ice and Fire and Percy Jackson, but I think that my favorite book that I recently read is Cambell's 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces'. Oh, and I studied in a high school called Miguel de Cervantes, so I guess having Don Quijote is a must here.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My favorite achievement ever is probably founding a debating club back in high school. It was created to help students develop debating skills and participate in Model United Nations events, but it ended up becoming a welcoming environment where people could make new friends and start becoming more social within our school. I'm really proud of that.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm always eager to teach Portuguese and Spanish (although this one is always tougher for me) and I love sharing life stories or anything that would make for a great conversation! Also, I'm up to learn anything as well, especially if it is something that I wouldn't find back home.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'd be glad to share Brazilian culture - whether it is music, tradition or foods and drinks! I may not be a super great cook, but I can cook some Brazilian food as well, especially brigadeiros.
