About Me
Hi I’m Kangi from America. I’d like to share with you a little bit about myself. I’ll start with why I love traveling so much. My love for travel began when I took my first flight when I was 19 years old (I know that’s kind of late, right?). Anyway, I was headed to my first college internship which just so happened to be at one of the best places to meet people from all over the world; Walt Disney World! Flying and landing at Disney really changed the trajectory of my life because I knew from that moment traveling and meeting people would be a top priority.
After graduating from Fayetteville State University with a bachelor’s in communication. In 2013, I moved to Guangzhou, China to teach English as a second language. Initially, the plan was to stay for 1 year, but I loved it so much I stayed for 2 years. After China, I moved back to the states, but instead of going back to my hometown in Pennsylvania I decided to move to Los Angeles California to pursue acting. I love entertaining. I've been pursing my acting dream more seriously since 2015. To pay the rent (extremely expensive rent) I worked at a restaurant being a host and a server. I also worked as an executive assistant for a production company. I was a babysitter. I completed my 200-hour YTT in LA, so I would occasionally teach at a yoga studio. I know that sounds like many jobs, but they were all part-time so I could have the flexibility to go on acting auditions. It is still my dream to be an actress so I will pursue it forever.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While traveling and volunteering , I met a lot of people who shared many memorable experiences they’ve had on Couch Surfing so I’m finally making an account because I’d like to create my own experiences. I believe anyone can teach you something if you’re open to learning. My intention for using couch surfing is to learn something from my host that I wouldn’t necessarily get from staying at a hotel/hostel. I’m an open-minded person who loves to grow every day by learning and using the knowledge I’ve learned in my daily life. We can both learn from each!
Music, Movies, and Books
I’m open to all music but I love old school R & B, soul, rap, jazz and classical music. I don’t have just one favorite movie but my top 3 are The Notebook, Pursuit of Happiness and Love and Basketball. I love reading so my top favorites are The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Sacred Journey of the Peacful Warrior, by Dan Millman, The Celestine Prophesy, by James Redfield, The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I worked for a non-profit organization that allowed me to travel (by car) to many primary schools, high schools and universities in the US to educate students about the water crisis in Africa (specifically Swaziland). I gave 30-45 mins presentations everyday to hundred of students and majority of them were impacted and wanted to help the water crisis by donating, created small groups to continue spreading the news, sell merchandise etc. The students were very creative with trying to help and support Swaziland. All of the compassion and love the students had allowed them to raise enough money to have many water wells were built. 100% of the proceeds goes towards building sustainable water wells. I’m so honored to have made and impact by being a part of an amazing honest organization called Thirst Project! Check it out if you get a chance!
My favorite part about the job was meeting students from all different backgrounds and realizing that it doesn’t matter where you come from we can all help each other if we have love and compassion!
