About Me

Hey guys, I'm Ryan! Ever since I was a kid, I've always dreamt of seeing the world. I'm particularly interested in responsible travel and sustainability and like a lot of you guys, I love to see how adventurous I can get while on a budget. My favorite thing about traveling is getting local! I love meeting new people who can tell me about everything that makes their home so great. When I do go out, I like to spend my money in places where I know it'll benefit the local economy. Lastly, I'm really big on winging it during my travels! Though having an itinerary can be a pretty good idea, I really enjoy just going with the flow and seeing where the adventure takes me next.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Like I said before, I really love meeting locals whenever I visit a new place. I believe there's no point in going anywhere just to see how it can benefit you, whether through common tourist locations, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. I like to give back in any way I can, and one of the best ways to do that is to meet people, share stories, and really get to learn about the places I'm visiting through their eyes.

Music, Movies, and Books

Fav Music:

I range, haha. I love listening to anything really, from R and B (wouldn't let me type the sign!) to pop, rap, and folk style. I can honestly listen to anything! Right now, my favorites are probably Khalid (he just vibes), Post Malone, and Logic.

Favorite Movies:

I love watching movies, it's probably my favorite hobby outside of wrestling! That said, I don't really know if I have favorites? I really like 'The Way' with Martin Sheen about the Camino de Santiago, 'Kung-Fu Panda', the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the Ip Man movies, the modernized Planet of the Apes series, the Toby Maguire Spider-Man movies, Avatar, I can go on. I'm also a big fan of Thrillers! I'm a big Tom Hardy fan too, I loved 'Warrior' and 'Legend'. Movies with a message are really cool too!

As you can see, it's hard for me to make up my mind, hahaha.

Books:

I wish I could say I'm more of a reader than I am! I'm really loving "To Shake the Sleeping Self" by Jedidiah Jenkins. I like anthropological studies and have read some great books like "Allah Made Us", "G-Strings and Sympathy", and "Conceiving Cuba". Other than that, I usually fall back on books from my childhood like the "Hunger Games" series or "Harry Potter". Anything that offers cool travel advice or facts is a bonus!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think the coolest thing I've ever done was being a part of a week-long Sustainability program in Ecuador. Right after I graduated from SUNY Oswego in May 2018, we hopped on a plane and made our way to Ecuador to learn all about sustainability. This is where I fell in love with the idea of supporting local businesses (we even got to visit a 'Chocolate Tour' in Mindo where we learned how to make organic chocolate from scratch by a man who turned his craft into his life's work!) as well as sustainability in general. I had a lot of firsts there and it was an experience I'll never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:

I'm not sure how much I can teach! I am Life-Coaching Certified and also a Pro-Wrestler, so if you are up to learning about personal wellness and/or how to put someone in a headlock, I gotchu! If you want to know more about responsible travel, I love to chat about that too!

Learn:

I'd love to learn all about your background and your personal take on where you're from. Where are the best local restaurants? What are your favorite hobbies? Where is your favorite place to escape to in the city?

Share:

Anything about travel! Responsible travel tips, budget travel, crazy adventures, best food to eat, anything. I'd love to share experiences because that's the only way we grow as people!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a totally respectful guest. If you would like your alone time, I'm not going to hound you to show me around. If you're more on the extroverted side, I'd love to get to know you, hang out, and see what a typical day looks like in the city you live in. I love to cook, sit down and have a drink, or go out for a fun walk around town. I'm open to anything =)
