About Me

Hello,
My name is Suné Rennie and I am South African. I'm a student at Unisa (University of South Africa) studying Arabic, French and Islamic Studies as majors and English, isiXhosa and isiTswana as minors. I also studied Music with Piano as instrument at the Conservatoire du Grand Avignon. As you can see, my passions includes languages and piano. I am travelling full-time as my studies are online. The main purpose of my travels are to get insight on different people, places, cultures, religions and languages. I would love to share my stories with you and hear your stories. My dream is to one day write a book about my experiences. I also love to read! I recently started a YouTube channel, you can subscribe if you'd like :) The channel's name is Suné Rennie (my name).

A little update: I'm now a second year university student and this year I have studied Arabic, French and Islamic studies. I also did a Level 5 diploma to Teach English as a Foreign Language. I have extra Arabic classes online almost everyday for about a hour. I still want to write a book about my experiences. I started of strong with the YouTube idea, but somewhere along the line I got tired of sharing my life online haha.

As time moves on and I gain more travel experience, I've come to realise that I am head over heals in love with the MENA region. The Middle East and North Africa feels like my home. My goal is to travel to all the countries in this region. So far, I've been in Tunisia, Jordan, Palestine, Turkiye and Egypt. I am hoping to visit Iraq and Syria soon. One of the reasons that I study Arabic is to be able to understand the poetry. I once read a translated poem and it was so beautiful, I just have to read more. The desert makes me feel at home, and I know that the whole region is not just desert. It is in fact so diverse...but the desert is my favourite. Wadi Rum, the Sahara, the Karoo...there is just something about it that makes me feel calm.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think that Couchsurfing is the best way to learn about a country, because you have the opportunity to stay with a host that knows the country and it's "secrets". As I mentioned above, I want to gain insight into the country's culture. Couchsurfing gives you the opportunity to experience something special, and I believe that you won't be able to find this when you're staying in a hotel.

I've had amazing hosts so far, which I am so grateful for. Thank you to everyone who hosted me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can't think of an amazing thing that I have done. I think I'm living an amazing life and I try to help people as much as I can, but it wouldn't really feel that amazing if I start bragging about it. Amazing things should be done in silence and our actions should speak for itself.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to teach you some Afrikaans, my mother tongue. I can also teach you some piano, or how to read music.
I want to learn about your culture, language and religion.
I can share my stories, the little experience that I've gained in life so far and I can of course share my culture with you.

Update: I have a teaching diploma, so I can definitely teach you some English.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my stories, the little experience that I've gained in life so far and I can of course share my culture with you. I would love to teach you some Afrikaans words.
I'm not the best chef, but we can attempt to make a Afrikaner / South African dish together.
